My personal opinion is that these guys probably got drunk and damaged the bathroom the the police were called and the police asked for payment to make them go away. Call it being held up call it extortion call it what ever you want but if you believe the official Brazil side of the story I have a bridge to sell you.
See, that's where I don't trust the Rio police on this. The police say the swimmers handed over their wallets. Who does this? Even if the security guard supposedly demanded cash for supposed damages, who would hand over their entire wallet? If it's only cash, why not just take out some cash?
This whole thing stinks, and the more that comes out, the more I'm inclined to believe our swimmers, not that they're angels, but that it looks more and more like the Rio police are trying to cover up the third-world turd-hole mess they have there.
1) I don’t trust Big Media. They are known liars and known to hate America.
2) I don’t trust the Brazilian government in particular, and third world governments in general. They are known to be corrupt, and dishonest, and hate America.
3) I don’t trust armed “security guards” in third-world hellholes. The distinction between them and armed robbers can be difficult to make.
4) I don’t trust video with huge gaps in it.

I saw a picture of the bathroom door on a news site. It looks like it has suffered from years of abuse and neglect. It’s possible it was used as an excuse to extract money from rich Americans.
This whole situation has been blown out of proportion by the Brazilian authorities who are desperate to redirect all of the bad press they have received over the Olympics fiasco.
They see the U.S. swim as their salvation. They will continue to paint them as “Ugly Americans” until the bad press for Rio stops.
Those poor guys being forced to say they are lying from that third world garbage pit. BAN BRAZIL from any vacation plans....
Hard to imagine what one could do to a third world gas station bathroom to “destroy” it. I frankly, am surprised anyone could tell the difference.

These kids could have put a quick end to all the reporters and cameras being stuck in front of their faces simply by putting on a Hillary For President T-shirt.
