ITHACA, N.Y. -- Ithaca was shockingly named the Most Hippie Town in New York in an article published by Thrillist last week.

The list -- which includes classically hippie towns such as: Homer, Alaska; Santa Cruz, California; Athens, Georgia; and Asheville, North Carolina -- was written by Matt Meltzer.

He wrote, "Thought we'd go Woodstock, did ya? Well, aside from being home to the mud-soaked music fest on Yasgur's farm, it's really become more of a hippie tourist trap than an actual town. Ithaca, however, has THE WORLD'S LARGEST FREAKING PEACE SIGN."

Have the city father of the city of evil ever pushed back?

Or do they relish the title?

Back in the day real Hippies didn’t yell or threaten anyone.

Real Hippies were so sweet and peaceful it made you WANT to smack them.

This is no shock. Ithaca is a hippie valley time warp and has been for decades.

Being in Ithaca feels as though one is literally time traveling into the sixties and its creepy.

It has been a few years since I have been there - my niece graduated from Cornell about 3 years ago but it doesn’t change.

EXACTLY the same with Santa Cruz. And an immensely tired feeling as well.

But...

It's the buildings and people. The LAND has a very special energy, very high and mellow at the same time. It's definitely different, and really great to be in - as long as you're not with any Santa Cruzians. But I don't think, long ago, the natives actually live there. Nearby, yes, but not there - too powerful.

Same with Santa Fe, NM. The city sits on a plain where the natives came for giant meetings and dances and spiritual celebrations. But no one lived there - they lived nearby.

But the white folks plonked down right in the middle of both places and prompt turned into liberal hippie democrats.

The natives knew better.

“They left Austin, TX off the list.”

Wonder why Trump is coming to Austin tomorrow night for a rally? That is sure to rile the considerable nest of old and new hippies that infest that Liberal tar pit.

Liberals, commies and queers? Definitely. But I’ve yet to see any hippies in Asheville.

“...city sits on a plain ... natives ... spiritual celebrations...”

Very interesting - I wonder if the Cayuga natives had a similar respect and spiritual awareness of the area that is now Ithaca. This would not surprise me.

I certainly have felt an odd time warp feeling in and around Ithaca - the land indeed perhaps has a special energy that needs proper handling (not twisted sixties new age mishandling).

Would the presence of so many waterfalls in Ithaca have some effect, like ionization? I always feel better standing by a waterfall.

No doubt. Waterfalls do add a certain energy.
