Trump says government can 'work with' illegal immigrants

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump continued to insist Wednesday in a "Hannity" town hall with Fox News' Sean Hannity that there will be "no amnesty" for illegal immigrants, but suggested that he would be willing to "work with them."

His remarks were the latest in a series of recent interviews where he has said he is considering softening a previous pledge made at the onset of his campaign to deport 11 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. During a "Hannity" town hall on Tuesday, Trump said he was open to "softening" laws dealing with illegal immigrants.

On Wednesday, Trump told Hannity there would be "no citizenship" for those illegal immigrants.

"Let me go a step further- they'll pay back-taxes, they have to pay taxes, there's no amnesty, as such, there's no amnesty, but we work with them," Trump said.

He also spoke of how hard it would be to deport people who have lived in the country for decades and raised a family.

"Now, everybody agrees we get the bad ones out," Trump said. "But when I go through and I meet thousands and thousands of people on this subject, and I've had very strong people come up to me, really great, great people come up to me, and they've said, 'Mr. Trump, I love you, but to take a person who's been here for 15 or 20 years and throw them and their family out, it's so tough, Mr. Trump,' I have it all the time! It's a very, very hard thing."

what he’s doing is making it look like he’s pedling back and forth. What is he doing asking an audience what they think? He will lose more votes than he gets if he backpedals. He will lose votes from all sides if he can’t make up his mind.

How many votes is he going to lose? People are going to vote for Clinton? Not vote and effectovely vote for Clinton? Vote for the two others and effectively vote for Clinton? Like me, most will hold their nose and vote for Trump while hoping this is just a ruse to get RNC cooperation and possibly turn a few voters.

Did people expect deportation trucks driving through the barrio taking people out? The wall being built will help in self deportation
Also he said he wants to stop birthright citizenship, which I don’t think any politician has ever mentioned.

The Donald has managed to do another about turn - only this time with an ancestry plan that is more touch/freely and liberal than Jeb or Rubio.

People who claims his latest position is not amnesty are fooling themselves. This candidate has no convictions - on abortion, immigration, or anything else.

“Whether they came in 10 years ago, or they came in yesterday, they are illegally here. They are holding down jobs that could be filled with citizens. They are using state provided services at no cost. Others are using the welfare system illegally. Many have been given the opportunity to vote illegally. There is a high crime rate among them as indicated by the amounts in jail or prison. And many are active in bringing more in in the way of family and friends illegally to do the same. They are trespassing on our land and knew they were doing it against our laws when they did it, so they are criminals just by that alone to include federal and state.”

amen. Trump is making a huge mistake, by softening his position on illegals. he’s getting bad advice, as this is one issue that makes a number of former democratic supporters who are looking for work want someone who will stand up for them as jobs are being taken away by illegals. this new position will not help him win in November, and could actually cause him to lose.

Any policy towards illegals must - MUST - address the incentives that are set up by that policy. Are you incentivizing more to try their hand at illegal entry or are you incentivizing them to stay home and apply through the legal process?

With 600 million people south of our porous non-existent southern border and untold millions outside the Americas who might also avail themselves of this easy access, there can be only one immigration policy - Stop giving prizes for illegal entry.

Any measure that permits those who entered illegally to benefit from that illegal act is amnesty. And any amnesty will bring millions more invaders.

This must be stopped.

Will you help stop this?

You can help:
Right-click this image and save it. Post it on your Facebook, Twitter and other social media accounts. Send a copy to your Senators and Reps right now and whenever you communicate with them. When you get fundraising solicitations, include a copy in your reply. Send copies to your friends and family and ask them to do likewise. Spread it everywhere.

I think this is an attemp to appeal to white women voters, the soccer mom types who hear the word “deportation” and think of Nazi stormtroopers putting Jews into cattle cars during WWII. That’s why Trump keeps using the word “humanely,” to take that negative image out of these women’s minds.
Fox news is glossing over the part where he said that nothing has changed regarding the fact that we’re going to enforce our laws. Also, the media is conveniently overlooking the fact that we don’t need a deportation force; we already have ICE and the Border Patrol, who have been hamstrung by Obama and not allowed to do their jobs.
I do wish Trump would talk about self-deportation, which is the humane way to get these people to go home without costing the taxpayers a boatload of money. Remove incentives for their coming and being here and they’ll go. It’s very simple, and why Trump isn’t talking about it is a mystery to me.

If Trump goes all ‘but this isn’t amnesty’ on us he will lose a ton of votes. People won’t vote for Hillary, they just won’t go vote.

Yep, McAmnesty kept insisting all of his amnesty plans weren’t amnesty.
Rubio did as well.

Amnesty is letting them stay.

Amnesty is changing the laws to benefit those breaking them.

Enforce current law and they will leave on their own.

Deport the ones who do not leave.

Make them legal after they return home.

He always said there would be a big, open door for the good ones.

They go home, they file, they return under a seasonal or worker visa. But only the good ones. Good = no social security fraud, no medical insurance fraud, no felonies, etc.

Priority given to those with US citizen children.

Moving 30M people to hundreds of countries would be a monumental and expensive task. Trump may mean by working with them is to have them enter the naturization process (with a monetary penalty) or all services stop. Criminals will be deported. The wall gets built. Follow the law. Prosecute and deport those who disobey. No more revolving doors.

Donald was brilliant on Hannity last night. I loved his courage ans spontaneity turning to the audience. It demonstrated to me how unpredictable he will be in a debate.

And yes, we do need to demonstrate an ability to discriminate and be compassionate while deporting illegals.

I’ve been on probation here for over a month. When will it end?
I’ve said for a while now, I’m only voting for Trump for 1 reason and 1 reason only and it’s hopefully he’ll put up Conservatives for the Supreme Court and that is it.

Let me ask, after he wins am I then allowed to criticize him when he does amnesty or backpedals faster than I can run forward?

Trump's plan for those still here is almost identical with that of Jeb. We all hated Jeb’s guts for his plan. The difference is that Trump knows that his core will follow him if he shoots someone in public in downtown NY. Someone will cry foul and say he was kidding but that is exactly Trumps words, and humor has truth. Right now I have been reading what some have said, desperately trying to justify it by saying it is faking the dems or something silly. It may get me kicked off here but here is the unvarnished truth.

Donald Trump is like many of our candidates. He has secured his base and is not changing his position of a controversial subject in order to win those on the fringes (i.e. independents and more moderate Dems.) He knows that those like us are going to vote for him because we have no choice.

This is what we have gotten, a candidate with no conservative principles who will say anything to get elected. With that said I will never vote for Hillary but it seems like there is less and less reasons to vote for Trump. What will everyone say if he “moderates” his view on the wall?

I love you all and have enjoyed posting and exchanges with you. I assume that this note will get me banned from here, since we have been told that NO NEGATIVE comments about Trump will be tolerated. Feel free to try to convince me that this is somehow different from what Jeb would do. One final question. If Trump had come out with these ideas 6 months ago, would you have been so gung ho for him?

“I do think he’s toying around now...getting the Dems off-balance...and it’s working.”

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about Trump, it’s that he’s absolutely genuine, and doesn’t ever mince words about his feelings on any issue.

I don’t think he’s toying with anyone. I think he’s speaking his heart on this one angle of the illegal immigration problem. The man is tough, but he has a heart.

Like he said, it’s going to be a tough thing dealing with the status of illegals who’ve been here for decades - particularly those who were brought here illegally as children. Many, if not most of those kids, are completely aculturated to this country, and don’t have a real cultural connection to Mexico.

Just because people repeatedly proclaim this does not all = amnesty does not mean they are correct.

Rush Limbaugh has said repeatedly, we don’t need new laws or reform, we need to enforce the laws on the book.

Trump says something similar.

Though I don’t think Trump’s words are perfect, I don’t find a lot of meat on the bones by those being so critical, EXCEPT, it sounds like mass deportation is not being discussed.

Trump did not say anything about Citizenship.
