High School reverses American flag ban at football stadium

Students at Travelers Rest High School in South Carolina will once again be able to wave American flags at football games.

Principal Lou Lavely reversed his ban on Old Glory just a few hours after we posted a column about the controversial decision.

------

“The principal, in an effort to prevent any potential issue in this rivalry game, decided not to allow students to bring in full-sized American flags,” she told me. “They were turned away at the gate with the flag and told they were welcome to come in but they could not bring their flags with them.”

So here’s the back story: during last year’s game, some students allegedly flew Old Glory and hollered out, “Go home, go home.”

“The principal made a decision in terms of what he thought was best for student safety,” Ms. Brotherton said. “Because of prior incidents, that was not something he felt like was in the best interest of maintaining a good relationship between the two school communities.”

Travelers Rest Police Chief Lance Crowe disagreed with the principal’s decision and fired off a statement letting the locals know that the police department loves America and Old Glory.

“To my knowledge, every TRPD officer, except one, believes that barring the American flag from a football game is not a correct policy,” Chief Crowe wrote.

No, no no. That's the exact opposite of what should have been done. You can remove anyone for bad conduct. Throw out the person who's being an ass, don't say 'No American flags.' If someone has a problem with seeing an American flag...in the United States...at a high school football game...the person waving the American flag IS NOT THE PROBLEM.

Because people can’t possibly speak the words, “Go home”, unless they carry a flag. This guy is an idiot.

EXACTLY! The left cannot tolerate conflict. They always choose the wrong side .. because they don’t want to offend anyone with the horrible American Flag. UGH; DISGUSTING.

I’m so sick of this garbage.

It’s amazing that we allow idiots like this to educate our young.

They should recall the school board if they don’t fire this guy.

The left cannot tolerate conflict.

Actually, the left condones conflict so long as they approve the end result.

What they cannot tolerate is the sense of pride and patriotism that OUR folks have. Any expression of that and morality or religion is an anathema that must be quashed in the name of diversity, inclusiveness or some other gobbledygook they can come up with.
WE the People have got to do what this small town has done and confront them every time they try to institute such idiotic policies designed to weaken and divide and demoralize: to make us feel our pride is misplaced or somehow hurtful.

It MUST stop and it begins with each of us to just say NO.

Well .. if they love conflict, you better check with the universities .. where they have built “safe places” for their fragile little snowflakes; the ones who cannot tolerate any conflict.

The only “conflict” the left likes is when they are screaming at everyone else about how to live.

Overlooked is that the lefties still won the battle. Flags were banned for that specific game. Then when the risk was over, the ban was lifted. The idiot principal got exacty what he intended.

Lou Lavely should be doing something for which he’s more qualified - like brushing out the bathroom bowls in the lavatory.

Many times we see one or two incidents, or even opinions used to stifle our beliefs system.

Most people support the flag being there, but one incident was a good enough excuse to ban it.

More thought needs to be put into these decisions.  One person or just two or three, or even a small group shouldn't be able to destroy what the massive number of people want.

I'd liken the issue of the Dixie Flag to this.  The majority of people in this nation have no problem with it at all, and do not see it as a racial issue.  None the less, a very few loud-mouths rule the day.

That needs to stop right here.

If I were a Hispanic resident of Berea and loved my country, I would bring an even bigger AMERICAN flag to the football games, to undercut the supposed insult from the other side.

Safe Places and free speech zones are an excellent example. They are meant to silence the likes of thee and me, not them. They have no problem shouting down speakers they do not like and will even rush the stage to shut them up.

They will do violence and will destroy all the while whining that its unfair for anyone to hit them back.

That I contend has to stop. We must not be silent anymore. They do NOT have the high moral ground.
