Rush Limbaugh's Ultimate Betrayal of His Audience
The Atlantic ^ | CONOR FRIEDERSDORF

Posted on 08/30/2016 7:17:55 AM PDT by ToxicMich

For almost a decade, I’ve been angrily documenting the way that many right-wing talk-radio hosts betray the rank-and-file conservatives who trust them for information. My late grandmother was one of those people. She deserved better than she got. With huge platforms and massive audiences, successful hosts ought to take more care than the average person to be truthful and avoid misinforming listeners. Yet they are egregiously careless on some days and willfully misleading on others.

And that matters, as we’ll come to see.

If you make a very public show of deporting say 40,000 of them, a whole lot more are going to get the message and self-deport. Particularly if that will save their opportunity to return legally at a later date.

Personally I’d prefer some program where a Mexican worker could apply to come legally than our current system where a guy can walk off the street in Yemen, toss is name in a hat at our embassy and win a Green Card.

Cruz didn’t accomplish anything in the senate. People had real questions about whether he would be as ineffective in the presidency.

I read that, look at Obama, and my head explodes.

Makes Cruz different from Hillary HOW, exactly?

Anyone who looks to radio talk shows as a source of information is an idiot.

As one 'idiot' who needs information, I ask you to please enlighten me, oh Learned One.

Where should we of the hoi polloi seek information?

NPR
CBS/NBC/ABC/MSNBC
'BBC
Washington Post
Agence France-Presse
RT
CNN
The Guardian
The Times (London/NY/LA/India)
The Enquirer
The Nation
The Daily Worker
Investors Business Daily
World Net Daily
The Drudge Report

Inquiring 'Idiots' want to know!

(BTW, the operative phrase is "a source of information", not "their ONLY source of information")

Why waste a perfectly good rant by actually reading the article?

I am constantly amazed by the number of posters who rant and rave about Mr. Limbaugh. A man who has been crystal clear that his driving force this election is “Never Hillary” not pro-Trump, pro-Cruz, pro-anybody.

Second, he has also been crystal clear for years that he is not a political figure, he is a radio host who comments on the news of the day. He observes, comments, argues, on what he sees and what he thinks. I have listened to his program for 26 years (minus 3.5 years deployed) and this formula has not changed.

Finally, to those who complain about the ads, how else do you expect him to pay the bills? He generates an audience of millions being himself, then charges exorbitant fees to advertise to those same people. It is Capitalism at work, more power to him!

Has anybody actually read this article before commenting on it? The writer excoriates Rush Limbaugh for his support of Donald Trump instead of the 15 GOP primary losers. The target audience of this column is the globalist elites and tools who manipulate both wings of the UniParty toward their One World agenda. It is an echo chamber hit piece aimed at Trump and Limbaugh, but which actually exposes the camouflaged globalists hiding behind GOP lines. The UniParty divides and conquers by taking both sides of every issue except national sovereignty — and that is why they are united tooth and nail against the American nationalist, Donald Trump.

After reading the article, I was going to post the same sentiment, but you said it better than I would have.

The article seemed to be planting the idea that Limbaugh is a Trump backer, and that he influenced Trump’s nomination.

Totally false.

“Rush Limbaugh is one of the greatest TRUE conservatives to ever live. The other is Phyllis Schlafly.”

Good grief, Schlafley is and was a self-sacrificing patriot. Rush is hardly in her league, if anything he’s motivated by financial success. Schlafly was a major conservative activist who donated her time and money when there was no personal gain for her to do so. She played a big role in electing Reagan.

By comparison Rush never bothered to vote until he was 37 yrs old in 1988. We know because he was never registered to vote until then. So he didn’t even vote for Reagan. He never speaks of any campaigns that he volunteered for because he never volunteered for any. He has often mentioned that he doesn’t donate to candidates. Rush’s dedication to advancing conservative causes was missing until it became a career and a way to make a living.

We nominated Trump because Limbaugh wasn’t honest about his true feelings about Trump? But Limbaugh was/is a Cruzie.

These guys never pass up a chance to insult Trump supporters.

Some leftist in Atlantic who undoubtedly will vote for crooked lying corrupt Hildabeast worried about you putting your trust in Rush! And you actually give it any credibility?

Are you nuts? For your own sanity, stay away from mind rot like the Atlantic. Always consider the source!

“Anyone who looks to radio talk shows as a source of information is an idiot.”

Anyone who doesn’t know the important history of Rush’s show that got out vital information throughout the Clinton years is a liberal troll.

If it weren’t for Rush there most likely would never have been a conservative movement the size it is today.

I don’t think Rush has done 7 consecutive minutes in the last 10 years. I would turn his show on in the car during lunch sometimes and every time it went from the ABC news report to commercial to maybe 5 minutes of discussion before seguing into a Lifelock or Simplisafe pitch then a few more minutes of commercials before he comes back for less than two minutes to announce he has to take another “obscene profit timeout.” And that is if you get lucky and the show time isn’t used marketing his “Two if by Tea” or “Rush Revere” sidelines. The only thing obscene is that I might get 7 minutes of actual discussion for 20 minutes of listening.

“If it weren’t for Rush there most likely would never have been a conservative movement the size it is today.”

The conservative movement elected Ronald Reagan long before anyone had heard of Rush Limbaugh. If anything in the years since the size of the movement has gotten smaller, in no small measure thanks to the Bush GOPe for whom Rush was a loyal waterboy.

CONOR FRIEDERSDORF is not a conservative. It would be similar to calling Megan McCain a conservative. He’s only known for attacking conservative radio hosts. He first attacked Levin after “Liberty and Tyranny.” He supported the Ground Zero Mosque, believes in man-made global warming, etc. I didn’t read the article btw, but I assume he’s whining that Rush didn’t stop Trump.

There would have been no Rush if Ronald Reagan had not pulled a fast one and scuttled the Fairness Doctrine as they were all going on recess.

My understanding is that Roger Ailes came up with the concept for this show, went host-shopping and selected Rush.

“My understanding is that Roger Ailes came up with the concept for this show, went host-shopping and selected Rush.”

Actually it was a retired ABC radio executive named Ed McLaughlin.. Rush explains the origin of the show here:

BS. Who do you think you’re talking to anyway, a bunch of ignoramuses??

Rush educated and woke up millions of people who otherwise did not even knew what the term ‘conservative’ was.

Supporting the Dubai Ports deal was Strike One. Apologizing to Sandra the Slut was Strike Two.

Don't forget NAFTA.

That said, The Atlantic is engaging in Divide & Conquer BS. At this point, it's one of the only weapons remaining from the MSM/Left/GOPe/Globalist arsenal.

If there's ANY "betrayal" of a conservative audience, it's in the person of 'The Great Treacherous One', Mark Levin.
