Van Susteren leaving Fox News, Hume tapped as replacement through election

Greta Van Susteren, who has hosted a top-rated evening program at Fox News for 14 years, is leaving the network.

The abrupt announcement today, in the middle of the presidential campaign, was coupled with word that Brit Hume, Fox’s senior political analyst and a former Washington managing editor, will take over as host of “On the Record” through the election.

Hume said he is “happy to take on this assignment for the balance of this extraordinary election. My Fox News colleagues have set a high standard for political coverage which I’ll do my best to uphold. I’m honored to be asked.”

Van Susteren, an attorney who hosted a legal show at CNN before joining Fox, has had a richly varied career, from interviewing presidential candidates to flying off to disaster zones such as Haiti, where she opened an orphanage and school named after her. The Wisconsin native has also been a forceful presence online, with her blog and with more than 1 million Twitter followers.

Bill Shine and Jack Abernethy, recently named co-presidents of Fox News, said in a joint statement: “We are grateful for Greta’s many contributions over the years and wish her continued success.” They also praised Hume as “one of the best political analysts in the industry” and “the ideal choice to host a nightly political program while the most dynamic and captivating election in recent history unfolds.”

No, my dog did not eat my homework, but he hit the pause button on the remote while I was doing something else upstairs.

So please forget my 2 earlier posts. I might be slow but not a complete moron, LOL!

I see her when she is defending him from the usual smelly Rovians and his fellow travelers are attacking.

“According to a source familiar with the process, Van Susteren asked to renegotiate her contract after Roger Ailes resigned under pressure as Fox News chairman following a sexual harassment lawsuit. Van Susteren is one of a number of key Fox personnel whose contract included a “key man” clause allowing her to leave if Ailes departed.

When those negotiations deadlocked, Van Susteren chose to invoke the departure option, the sources said. Her last show was Thursday, and the swiftness of events did not allow her to deliver an on-air farewell.”

Sounds like Fox pushed her out using the clause as an excuse.

Yeah; Fox is going to the dark side one announcer at a time when they should be getting rid of the dead liberal weight like shep smith and the rest. Either way; many of the rats and the good ones are jumping ship.

I think Greta leans left but is a fair journalist which is about all we can ask for these days when almost all journalist are uber leftists.

The Judge with Outnumbered is on here in CA. There must be a problem with your local network feed, not Fox.

Despite wonderful treatment of her by Trump over many years, she was unfair to him in many ways this past year, and that makes me think she’ll go to a liberal competitor.

As a Ted Cruz supporter I was irked by her and a few others, because she was so pro Trump. I actually quit watching her during the debates.

Now I am so strong on Trump, I have pissed off over 1000 of my fb friends.

Oh well, I told them I would support the eventual nominee with gusto.

She was the only one who truly gave the impression of being somewhat neutral in her reporting. With her leaving I am convinced FOX News is no longer “with us”.
Fox Business still seems to have our back...for now.

Oh No! Now my Fox News viewing is going to drop from 0% to... 0%.

Somebody let me know if/when they return to being a real news channel again and I might give them a second chance.

Hume retired for good years ago and agreed to do some guest spots for his “expert opinions”. My guess is he is a placeholder for whomever they decide to give the spot to. Normally they would rotate those who want the slot then decide on who would get it. With everyone bailing on FNC they probably couldn’t find anyone they liked well enough to fill the slot.

Reading between the lines tells me FNC is soon to be history or go far left or both.

She’s been not so supportive of Trump since the primaries ended.

Greta and her husband are huge Hillary supporters, and have donated big bucks to every one of her campaigns, starting with the Senate.

Unlike most of the other progtards in Media -- Third Stooge Shemp Smith comes to mind -- she's a professional, and you mostly can't see her bias.

Well, I have no reason to watch Fox anymore.....except for Outnumbered ‘cause I love Harris Faulkner. Greta was a class act.......I hope she doesn’t go back to CNN....then I’ll never see her........I’m very sad right now......;(
