IBD/TIPP: Economic Hopes Slip, Democrats Feel Blue
Investors Business Daily ^ | September 6, 2016 | JED GRAHAM

The IBD/TIPP Economic Optimism Index slipped this month, led by a sharp slide in confidence about the economic outlook over the next six months.

Pessimism deepened among Democrats, in particular, with their view of near-term economic prospects sinking to a five-year low.

The overall IBD/TIPP Economic Optimism index fell 1.7 points to 46.7, remaining in pessimistic territory below the 50 level since April 2015. The index has been in a narrow range of from 45.5 to 48.7 this year.

The index is a composite of three major subindexes that track views of near-term economic prospects, the outlook for personal finances over the coming six months and views of how well government economic policies are working.

The three major subindexes were mixed.

The six-month optimism gauge sank 4.4 points...

The personal financial outlook index edged up 0.6 point...

...Democrats' views of the six-month economic outlook tumbled 6.3 points to 36.4...

...with a big decline among those earning under $30,000 a year, whose views of the six-month outlook sank to 36.4 from 42.7.

While the Labor Department on Friday, reported a decent 151,000 employment gain last month, the report actually showed a significant drop in total hours worked.

Meanwhile, the ISM nonmanufacturing index fell 4.1 points in September to 51.1, much lower than expected and the weakest since February 2010. Last week, ISM said its manufacturing index fell below 50, signaling contraction for the first time in six months.

It's not clear whether presidential election prospects are affecting economic views, but the drop in confidence among Democrats coincided with the latest IBD/TIPP Poll showing a near dead heat between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

When the economic books are cooked, things don’t always go as well as planned. Eventually, the free money runs out or the printing press needs repair.

When you're paid by the hour, that REALLY hurts!

Especially with the liberals’ ballyhooed $15 an hour minimum wage.

People are working fewer hours being paid the same as they were when they made $10 an hour.

IOW, there was no real wage increase at all. Liberals think people are stupid.

No wonder people aren’t seeing a boost in the economy.

Well what did/do the mental midget Dems expect? All of the actions driven by their dear leader have hamstrung the economy. Did they think all of the regs, executive orders and deficit spending would have no effect on GDP and the economic outlook? The dems are great liars, political street fighters and slicers and dicers of the electorate, but when it comes to common business sense of cause and result they are vacuous.
1% GDP...just great you damned dopes.

On talk radio I heard the program host say: *But, but there were 150K jobs created last month*

The guest said: *Yeah, I know, I have three of them.*

{{Silence....break to commercial}} .... :)

Artificially high minimum wage is leading many companies to use more automation.

The McDonald’s in Europe have a bank of ordering/payment screens. Machines take your order and payment. Employees are only tasked with food prep.

That system will be coming soon in places where a high minimum wage has been instituted.
