Anxious Dems urge Clinton to open up
The Hill ^ | September 9,2016 | Alexander Bolton

Democratic senators, anxious over Hillary Clinton’s inability to pull away from Donald Trump, have some advice for their nominee: Be more open, show your soul, focus on the economy and talk about blue-collar jobs.

Recent polls show Trump within striking distance of Clinton, defying predictions in Washington that he is doomed in November.

Trump’s ability to stay competitive while running an unconventional campaign has underscored what Democratic lawmakers see as the need for Clinton to improve in certain areas. These lawmakers, who served with Clinton in Congress and have known her for years, say her public persona is too guarded.

They struggle to reconcile the charismatic, warm and funny woman they know in private with Clinton’s public persona, which can come across as stern, aloof or annoyed.

Democratic senators say it’s natural for Clinton to put up her guard because she has been the target of Republican attacks for decades. But they think she might benefit from relaxing a little more on the campaign trail.

“Her decades in this arena have taken their toll,” said Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.). “When you’re hit a lot there’s almost an unconscious shield that controls the answers to your questions. I think she’s got to get rid of that and just let herself be.

“Everybody that knows her, loves her. They know her heart is full,” she added. “That’s what she ought to do, just take the shield away from the heart.”

Vice President Biden offered similar advice earlier in the week, calling on her to be “more open.”

Clinton has had the most difficulty connecting with white working-class voters. A nationwide CNN/ORC poll released Tuesday showed Trump beating Clinton among white voters without college degrees, 66 percent to 23 percent.

Many of these voters question her trustworthiness.

Exactly, which is why the polling that was showing Clinton up at or near 50% was comical.

Bill, for all his ills and faults, was a damned good retail politician, he knew how to work a room, connect with people on a personal level, and basically competent at retail politicking.

Hillary is cold, she has no innate warmth, and comes across as phony every single time. The more she is seen the lower she polls. As Trump wins the polls and debates, Hillary will have no choice but to be more visible trying to fight against him... and the more she is visible the lower she’ll poll and the more she’ll be visible.

She’s a terrible candidate, and it is beyond laughable that anyone is truly thinking she is going to win, particularly in a disruptive cycle, which this is.

All Trump has to do is get through the debates looking like a reasonable person, and if he does, he wins. He will likely be ahead in the polling by the first debate anyway, as there is no one, no one on the fence about voting for hillary... Those that are going to vote for her have already decided too... other than some first time voters, she’s a known entity, if folks haven’t decided to support her by now, they aren’t going to... the only real direction she has to go in the polls is down, and I believe on her best day if she did everything right, she could not get more than the low 40s in support 42/43.

Look for the polling knee to happen somewhere right around the debates probably just before, you will see Trump not only having the lead here and there, or by a few points, but starting to break away.... and as he starts to look like he’s going to win, you will see the 2-4 % of the population who plan to vote for him, but are afraid to say it for fear of reprisal, start to admit their intent all along and you will see him go up some more, and then assuming he comes out of the debates looking reasonable, you’ll see him gain another 3 or 4 points...

By early Oct it will be clearly obvious Trump is winning and Dems will be scrambling to try to hold onto states no one in the mainstream was willing to even remotely consider would be in danger.

I firmly believe any state, any state, that D’s have not traditionally taken by 5 or more points will go Trump... and any they take between 5 and 10 will be in play.

I fully expect Trump to take the Rust belt, sans MN and IL.... I expect him to do well in new england and take some states no one would remotely think he could get... and depending on how things go, he could even break into some of the bigger NE states and take a few of those, if momentum does start to shift hard and the writing gets on the wall... because once its known you are going to be the winner... you will get another percent or two of folks who will vote for you, just because they want to be onboard with a winner, not for any other reason.

Time will tell, but I truly see no way Hillary can muster better than 15 states and 180 EC votes at BEST... and I would not be surprised at all if she’s closer to 10 states and 100-120 EC votes on election day.

Yeah, that’ll really help her win—”show her soul”.

They struggle to reconcile the charismatic, warm and funny woman they know in private...

What she needs is a few testimonials. Perhaps the Marine guards she so graciously allowed to carry her luggage? No, maybe not them...what about the Secret Service people she treats so courteously? OK, maybe not. Some of the f***ing Jew b******s from New York? Hmm...this is harder than I thought.

In point of fact, there are three classes of people around Her Heinous: people who give her money, people she gives money to, and worthless nonentities who will by God vote for her because she deserves it. I think we know which category we fall into.

Dishonest, crooked liars such as Hillary tend not to be very "open"...

Vote Trump!

Do you see any of Bernie’s, Stein’s, or Johnson’s voters breaking toward Trump if your prediction turns out to be accurate?

There, fixed it for them.

The thing about Bernie’s supporters are they are mostly younger... and Bernie was the left version of Trump.. in that he was running anti establishment... Many of the problems Bernie was citing were legitimate issues, that need attention... but his solutions to them were horrible.

The Bernie supporters who see a corrupt system and recognize fighting the corrupt system must be a priority, some of those may break Trumps way... most are only supporting Hillary begrudgingly at best anyway... but will it be big numbers? Doubtful.... more than likely they will just stay home. But hey, you never know.

As for Stein, yea, nah, I can’t see anyone supporting her deciding to go Trump, she’s a grandma tree hugger, I don’t think anyone backing that is going to end up supporting a major Alpha Male like Trump no matter what.

Johnson, well that’s interesting, I doubt you will see someone who is hard core Johnson move to Trump.... But I do believe that some of Johnson’s support is likely coming with folks who are anti hillary, but just for various reasons do not trust Trump or believe he is too big of a risk or Crazy... etc... so it is possible that some of that set may be among those who conclude Trump is not the crazy racist Hillary and the press portray him as, so I will support him. Will it be big shift? Not sure... I know that I am very hard pressed to think on election day he’s going to get high single digits.. There are certainly some Nevertrump’s in the Johnson camp, and I would expect those to mostly come home if Trump comes out of the debates looking reasonable.

If Johnson has a few more major flubs, innocuous or not, it won’t help his cause.. because lets face it, that’s about the only time he really gets any major press... he’s not going to make the debate stage, so I certainly can’t see his support growing and most likely slowly shrinking over time.

People say, why did the Dems nominate such a bad candidate? Well who else was on the bench? They had few options.

And don't forget what happens to people who threaten to thwart Illiary's plans.

That is an excellent point. They were dropping like flies there for a while, weren’t they? If that many people died ‘conveniently’ around Trump, we’d hear quite a bit about it.
