Democrats May Have Been Overconfident About Capturing the Senate

Part of the August of Democratic Complacency that revolved around robust poll numbers for Hillary Clinton (and the assumption they would get better and better as Americans shrank in revulsion from Donald Trump) was a consensus that Democrats would very likely win back control of the Senate and might even get the House if Trump continued to implode.

Donkey Party optimism about the Senate actually began to spike in July when former senator Evan Bayh suddenly jumped into the race for the seat of Republican Dan Coats, who is retiring. Bayh had big sacks of money left over from his previous Senate campaigns and had always been very popular among Hoosiers. Republican nominee Todd Young looked like a sudden loser, and a lot of observers figured the GOP would concede the seat.

But pro-Republican outside groups did not get the memo, and they’ve already spent $5 million on the Indiana Senate race, with more in the pipeline. And although the Bayh name may be minor magic in the state, the former senator has some baggage, too, including tenuous residency in the state during his recent years as a lawyer-lobbyist in sinful D.C. While the Democrat is still the favorite, the polls are tightening noticeably, and Indiana’s one state where Trump is unlikely to drag down the ticket.

You can count on the Democrats to act like nasty little spoiled brat bullies whenever they think they have the upper hand.

There was also a consensus that Hillary was a shoo-in.

I hope the Washington Generals hold on to the Senate. Problem is still that they are a bunch of slow leaks. Why can’t they all band together and support Trump? What are they afraid of?

They do what their donors tell them to do.

If these leaks continue, I’d be surprised if the Dems go stay over 39.

Thank you for referencing that article SMGFan. Please note that the following critique is directed at the article and not at you.

Patriots, beware of the politically correct term “capturing the Senate.” The constitutional reality is that all that simple majority control of the Senate wins for patriots is a lame duck Senate.

More specifically, the Constitution gives the Senate the power to do things like remove House-impeached presidents from office (1.3.6) and overturn presidential vetoes (1.7.2), but only when the Senate can do so with a 2/3 majority vote, the House also needing a 2/3 majority vote in order for Congress to override vetoes.

But thanks to the ill-conceived 17th Amendment, even after three election cycles, enough cycles to have replaced all members of the Senate by now, low-information patriots have not only not established a 2/3 conservative Senate majority to remove a House-impeached Obama, but many patriots are probably still clueless of this requirement.

Sometimes I think that low-information patriots can sleep in the bed of unconstitutionally big federal government that they have made for themselves.

Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if the corrupt Washington cartel wants the Senate to be a lame duck so the Senate cannot remove impeached presidents, or override vetoes.

The Republicans in the Senate are always afraid of doing Anything! If Trump wins the debates and is in the lead after the last debate then they will jump on board so they can have more of the spoils. Don’t expect them to do the fighting though,

Why are you disparaging patriots? It ain’t our fault the liberals vote as they do...

“Cherish, therefore, the spirit of our people, and keep alive their attention. If once they become inattentive to the public affairs, you and I, and Congress and Assemblies, judges and governors, shall all become wolves. It seems to be the law of our general nature.” - Thomas Jefferson (Letter to Edward Carrington January 16, 1787)

A lot of people don’t need wisdom, until it’s too late and they won’t be done any good by it.
