Wife of Keith Scott, Charlotte Shooting Victim, Filmed Police Encounter (Includes Video)

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A cellphone camera video made by the wife of Keith Lamont Scott as he was fatally shot by the police here shows the moments before and after the incident, including the wife’s pleas to her husband to get out of his truck and her pleas to the officers not to shoot him.

But the video, which was given to The New York Times by lawyers for the family Friday, does not include a view of the shooting itself. Nor does it answer the crucial question of whether Mr. Scott had a gun, as the police have maintained.

One of the lawyers, Justin Bamberg, who is representing the family along with Eduardo Curry, said in an interview Friday that the video did not prove whether the shooting was justified or not. Rather, he said, it offered “another vantage point” of the incident. He said he hoped the Police Department would release its own videos of the shooting, as protesters have been demanding since Mr. Scott was killed on Tuesday afternoon.

The lawyers said the cellphone video was shot by Rakeyia Scott, Mr. Scott’s wife on Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Scott had parked his truck in a visitor’s space in their apartment complex, where he often waited for one of his children to return home on a bus. The police were there to serve a warrant on someone else.

The lawyers said Ms. Scott had come out of the apartment with a cellphone charger for her husband and noticed that police officers were around the truck.

I disagree. Put the gun down is pretty bad for him.

Wife saying he had just taken his meds and pleading for them not to shoot him will be great for the civil jury. She'll get a seven figure settlement at the least.

I couldn’t get this video to play, but I checked out the youtube version here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glVRwRtdE4g

I looked through it trying to see frames by hitting play and pause in rapid fire.

Right around 1:23 through 1:25, after she walked around, you can see what looks like the gun far off to the right, basically right off the corner of the shadow of back of the truck that is on the right. Later in the video, the guy with the red shirt straddles it. (Maybe to guard it?)

It’s between his feet for a while and you can’t see it. Then at 2:12, you see both a guy further in the background throw down a black glove, and at that point you see that Mr. Redshirt has moved his foot slightly and you can see it again. That’s my take on it, but it’s certainly open to interpretation.

Well compared to what they're doing it pales in comqarison. Prison? Nah None would come anywhere near to death...

I take it you're not of the targeted class when it comes to the BLM movement. It just gets really old listening to the same lies and rush to judgments.

Seems to always be the most important focal point whenever someone with black skin Is shot by the police whether they deserved it or not. After the BLM shows up the attorney seems to know that's really the best time to negotiate the highest judgment they can possibly get. I wonder if the BLM gets a percentage of the judgment?

The wife’s reaction to the cops after the shooting is most telling. Not exactly what you would expect from someone who just witnessed their husband being shot to death. Very cold and deliberate pronouncements to the cops, as if the whole scenario was staged.

OK — now I see what was confusing me. I’m watching it on a small screen, and I’m getting the gun confused with the black glove.

That’s what struck me too. She was acting like she had just won the ghetto lottery, and wanted to make sure she documented the winning ticket. Real lack of affect.
