But it's really great sh!t, Mrs Presky.
Yep, in some cases you have both within 10 miles or less of each other.
Many layoffs coming.
What’s sad is the locations are very unique and don’t lend themselves to other tenants.
Yep, George and Bertha.
George always had interesting stuff. I still have a pair of old worn wool socks from them for sentimental reasons and the “Improved” bowie knife.
Their guns were no frills but very cheap and made by good manufacturers.
They spent years dangling a bass pro store possibility in front of idiot Buffalo, NY government officials.
Literally YEARS.
Every time one of them would talk about revitalizing downtown, they would all reflexively say we're going to get a bass pro shop” as if that was going to cure everything.
Finally some one in the government told Bass Pro to s**t or get off the pot- and they pulled out of any deals. So F them.
The mayor of Buffalo has pretty much been very low-key. He's a democrat but tends to keep his hands-off business. Does not propose constant new government projects.
I feel like telling him he would make a good Republican. Buffalo has actually been reviving- the housing market is even going up for the first time in decades.
Rus, do you agree?
Cabela’s Roughneck carpenters jeans last me for years.
Quality hasn’t been as good of late though. Have switched to Dickies instead.
We have friends from the West Coast and friends from the MidWest with adult children working for Cabela’s in their home office.
Cabela’s used to be a great company to work for, and now it has apparently become a sweatshop of horrors for good workers.
This will be a good thing for any local sporting good store that have survived so far.
Cabela’s has been charging California sales tax on shipments to California for a few years, so there is no savings re sales tax if you buy from Cabela’s.
“I needed to accept or decline some sort of conservation support question on the charge card reader. I was paying cash...cash was on the counter. I refused to indicate one way or another....said I just wanted to pay for the product and leave. Cashier said I had to check one of the boxes. I told her she could check one of the boxes, but I wouldnt. Cashier said she wasnt allowed to. I asked for the manager. Manager said I had to check one of the boxes to complete the sale. I said I wasnt checking a box, buying the product or ever coming back. I picked up my cash and left.”
That is the dumbest most pedantic thing I have heard in weeks. The cash register system is automated. They don’t have a magic button to skip that. You could not press one button on a key pad? Is that some sort of brain dead ‘moral stand’? They LEGALLY can’t hit it for you and TECHNOLOGY-wise they can’t skip it. You gave them a bunch of sh*t for something they had ZERO control over and that mattered not at all.
I think that is literally the dumbest thing I have heard in weeks.
Whatever.
Thanks for your input.
Meanwhile in Bristol the new cabexlas is still only five miles from the new Bass Pro shop
Forty feet of a solid rock mountain were excavated to prepare the cabelas site

Yes, I agree.
Also the city council demanded they pay a “Living wage” too, for any jobs on the waterfront.
Brian Higgins is the one demanding they s**t or get off the pot. He’s a total moron
“wow I would not want to live there.”
Then you haven’t ever been there. We drove up with realtives from Denver to show two of their hot rods at a car show in Sydney. Cabela’s HQ is a big presence there, but it’s a very nice place with good people. BTW, we stayed in a very nice motel for $75. and that was for both nights. Sydney is also the county seat for Cheyenne County and the county fair was going on while we were there. You could do a whole lot worse than Sydney!
Decades ago, I got my first Gore Tex hunting jacket from Cabela’s. A younger relative is now using it.
My wife and I bought nice Cabela’s Gore Tex jackets for an Alaska Cruise 15 years ago, and we still use them. I bought my wife a new pink one for dressier wear. She keeps the older one in the trunk of her car in case an unplanned rain happens.
I bought my first Under Armour fishing shirts/light jackets a long time ago from Cabela’s, and they are still in great shape in spite of hard fishing, beach wear and yard wear for about a decade.
BPS prices are high, but the sales are good. I don’t pay full price when I know I can get a better deal soon.
Cabela’s is still a very good store, don’t get me wrong.
I’ve made two passes through Sidney NE, separated by over twenty years. The first was in 1973 as part of a wheat harvest crew in 1975. Sidney was a small town and Cabela’s was a small outdoor store on Main Street. The farmer we were working for took the entire crew to Cheyenne WY so we could go to the big rodeo there. Two members of the crew had a cousin in the bull riding event at the rodeo and their uncle was a bull-riding legend, Jim Shoulders.
The second time through Sidney was with the family while returning from a Black Hills vacation. The Cabela’s store was out on I-80 and a major tourist attraction. It had a really cool diorama with multiple full-size mounts of most of the large game in North America.
As others have noted, the only thing wrong with Sidney NE is in your own mind and how you perceive small-town middle-America. It has a really serious winter so that cuts down on the feather merchants and ne’er-do-wells.
Is Tim Allen ok with this?
Double ditto on your first sentence.
But then, I’ve gotten some good deals on rifles and pistols.....you know, the ones that went in the lake in the boating accident?
I much prefer the new location - did NOT like the crowded conditions of the old place on weekends...at all.....
One of the owners is a “neighbor” - when you live in the country, everyone within a mile is a neighbor......
I was thinking the same thing. Cabela’s always had better deals on bulk ammo.
