But that didn't work, it failed, which is why they decided to release it just prior to the 2nd debate with a month to go until the election. That way they can hammer on it and other "shocking" (at least they are hoping people perceive then that way) comments made by Trump.
Or possibly that Trump found out about their October surprise and had it released early to give him time to respond.
We can’t say the last minute Bush/DWI release didn’t work. That was THE closest election in our lifetimes. Remember Florida? When the election was finally decided by SCOTUS a month later? Sans that release, for all we know, he’d have taken FL beyond any question. All the release needed to do was turn off the approximate number of weak-kneed GOPe who have this weekend withdrawn their support of Trump.
