The NFL said “a confluence of events” is affecting ratings, including the election between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton diverting viewers to cable news outlets. ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” game on Sept. 26 between the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons aired at the same time as the first presidential debate, which drew a record-breaking 84 million viewers to the football game’s roughly 8 million. The next debate on Sunday night will go head to head with the game between the New York Giants and Green Bay Packers, and the league is expecting weak ratings.

In fact, since Christmas is just around the corner, I’ll be suggesting to my family, “please no NFL merchandise gifts this year”.

[sarc] Let's think about this for a minute...

MSM: "Hitlery's Poll numbers are skyrocketting" whereas Trump's are in the toilet;
Hitlery's rally attendance is overwhelming whereas Trump's are in the low hundreds;
no one cares about the clinton scandals but everyone wants to hear about Trump's;

Soooo, naturally no one will be watching the debate tonight on television because they'll be watching the NFL game. Right??? Surely that is why I'm doing the debate on tv tonight. [/sarc]

And if you believe all of the above I know someone with a bridge to sell in Death Valley I can put you in contact with.

It’s because the stakes are so high in this election that it puts the stupid shit these paid players are doing into perspective.

“It’s disinterest in the NFL.”

Yep. Boxing was all the rage in the early 1900s. Newspapers would dedicate almost a page to boxing.

Outside of title fights, you’re hard pressed to hear much about it.

Football is just as cyclical as any other sport. As the sport grew in popularity, it was changed to cater to all sorts of different demographics (casual fans, women, fantasy football stat geeks, you name it). The end result is a big mess with rules that allow a flag to be thrown on virtually any play. I got sick and tired of that nonsense and tuned out completely around 2007 (basically after the refs gave Super “Bowel” 40 to the Steelers ... And the Steelers were my favorite team). Those rosy ratings won’t last forever if they continuously screw with the game.

Mix in this stupid political nonsense and you have yourself a catastrophe in the making. People use sports to escape that crap. When your bombarded with it during what’s supposed to be entertainment, you’re going to want to shut it off.

We live in NH and have been die-hard Patriots fans for decades. The NE Patriots are playing today; Tom Brady is returning as QB, it is raining in Foxboro and is sure to be a good game BUT HEAR THIS NFL: MY ENTIRE FAMILY AND I, ALONG WITH MILLIONS OF AMERICANS WILL N O T BE WATCHING! AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO BOYCOTT A L L NFL GAMES UNTIL YOU PUT AN END TO THE RACIST, ANTI-AMERICAN "black lives matter more than all other lives" PROTESTS BEING SHAMEFULLY WAGED BY YOUR PLAYERS, SUPPORTED BY THEIR COACHES, MANAGERS, TEAM OWNERS AND THE UN-AMERICAN NFL COMMISSIONER!

Your loss of millions upon millions of dollars in lost revenue has NOTHING to do with the election and EVERYTHING TO DO WITH YOUR NFL PLAYERS SPITTING ON AMERICA, ITS NATIONAL ANTHEM, ITS CITIZENS, THE HMEN AND WOMEN OF THE ARMED FORCES, THE POLICE AND YOUR FANS. If you refuse to acknowledge the truth and rectify the situation you will continue to bleed hundreds of millions of dollars, you will permanently alienate and destroy your former fan base AND THE NFL WILL DIE!

The choice and outcome of the decision is yours.

Yeah what ever helps you sleep at night. Acknowledging the fact that you spit in the faces of your fan base is too smart of an idea for them to realize and repent. I hope they all go bankrupt. Oh and they can go to hell too. Football is not the religion of the people that buy their crap and can and will walk away from them.

Keep whistling past the graveyard NFL.

That tombstone has your name on it.

I was a 50 year fan.

I will no longer oppress them by watching them play a game for millions of dollars.

NFL-RIP

Yeah, that’s it... we’re all to busy to watch and cheer for people who can’t stand us, our values, or our beliefs...

Busy... yeah, right NFL...

Oh and eff all the white liberal elites running the NFL... let them get their viewers from the PBS crowd...

And the Steelers were my favorite team

I know what you mean. The sense of fair play outweighs team loyalty.

I was a Panthers fan until Cam Newton at the Super Bowl claimed he was the victim of racism in not getting enough credit. Then I was glad to see the Broncos beat them!

a big mess with rules that allow a flag to be thrown on virtually any play

That could also be a function of the players' size, speed, and strength outstripping the rules that worked in earlier days. Tackle football just may not be physically feasible with players like we have today.

It seems like the stupid, and or greedy, people rule the world.

The spirit of the Left is the spirit of anitchrist which is gradually getting stronger in these last days. The Left propagates stupidity and government greed (as opposed to God-given self-interest of individuals, a part of individual freedom).

Nevertheless, I look for change in the next few decades, a rebirth of freedom and limited government in America and a resurgence of the gospel of the grace of Christ to send the light around the world for one last in-gathering of souls before Jesus comes for his own after which all hell will literally break loose on the earth.

If you're a believer, you're in great shape. If not, ask Jesus into your heart and you'll be His, part of these last excited days and protected from what is coming afterwards.

Well, I’m not boycotting my Green Bay Packers; I’m a Shareholder in the ONLY Publicly Owned NFL Team, so we’ve got THAT going for us!

BUT - I WILL make a list of the advertisers and if I buy any items from those people, I will stop.

Except I LOVE my Ford Escape. I’m keeping her. :)

Decisions, decisions! In reality, I KNOW how STUPID Kaepernick is and I KNOW he’s thinking with his d*ck due to his BLM girlfriend.

I’ve got bigger fish to fry, but I DO like your boycotting advertisers idea and I WILL run with that. :)

NFL is searching for a reason ratings are in the shitter.
Now, they can blame the election hype. Who or what will they blame after Nov 8, 2016...Let's see then.
As far as I know, there is a lack of interest because of the demonstrations during the National anthem and for the stupid, taunting celebrations after every fricken play. No longer entertaining, it is tribal and just tiresome.

I'll be on the golf course.
