Holy and Righteous God,
Who can comprehend this awesome wonder---that the God of all creation has a hand upon which He has written our very own names? It is beyond understanding how much You love us, Lord. Your thoughts are higher than our thoughts; Your ways higher than our ways. We bow before You in awe and amazement for there is none like You. We owe our very lives to You. Every breath we take is by Your grace. Thank You, Father, for the height, the length, the breadth, and the depth of Your love for us.
Father, just as we cannot save ourselves, neither can we save our country. Our needs are beyond the capacity of human endeavor, and we cannot find our way back without Your help. We pray for Your mercy, Lord. Stir up Your people and lead us to repentance; for we have all contributed in some way to the lowering of standards of decency and morality in this nation. Save us from ourselves and restore us to the nation You want us to be.
Grant our precious military patriots the protection afforded by Your mighty angels. May they bear them up in their hands whenever they are in trouble or peril. Make them to dwell in the shadow of Your wings and help them to endure times of loneliness and misery as they serve the nation they love.
May Your mighty armies defend Israel at all times and in ways that are far higher than we can imagine or think. Lord, help America to support her and to defend her in good times and in bad. We pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
Thank You, Father, that we have a High Priest in Heaven---our Savior, Jesus Christ. How blessed we are to be Your people. Though we deserve no favor, yet You crown us with loving kindness and tender mercies. Blessed are You, Lord God, our King. We pray this together in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

2 Chronicles 7:13-14
13
At times I might shut up the heavens so that no rain falls, or command grasshoppers to devour your crops, or send plagues among you.
14
Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.
FATHER GOD,
Our nation is in desperate times. We have turned from You and have gone our own way. Forgive us. Have mercy on us. Save us from the impending judgment that we deserve.
Help us rebuild the walls of our nation, our home, our business, our culture. May politicians who are too fearful or ashamed to publicly stand for You, LORD, come to their senses. Without the Name of JESUS CHRIST they cannot do anything at all. Give them the boldness of our FOREFATHERS to declare IN GOD WE TRUST.
May fathers, mothers, sons & daughters rise up to declare “AS FOR ME AND MY HOUSE WE WILL SERVE THE LORD.”
Breathe new life in our churches, put a new resolve in our pastors to set an examples to their congregations to publicly stand for righteousness.
Blessed is the nation whose GOD is the LORD. Forgive us and heal our land.
In JESUS’ Name we pray. Amen.

United in Christ

He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach.
Mark 3:14
When we come across a list of names in the Bible, we might be tempted to skip over it. But we can find treasures there, such as in the list of the twelve apostles whom Jesus called to serve in His name. Many are familiarSimon whom Jesus called Peter, the rock. Brothers James and John, fishermen. Judas Iscariot, the betrayer. But we could easily overlook that Matthew the tax collector and Simon the Zealot must once have been enemies.
Matthew collected taxes for Rome, and therefore, in the eyes of his fellow Jews, collaborated with the enemy. Tax collectors were despised for their corrupt practices and for requiring the Jewish people to give money to an authority other than God. On the other hand, before Jesuss call, Simon the Zealot was devoted to a group of Jewish nationalists who hated Rome and sought to overturn it, often through aggressive and violent means.
Although Matthew and Simon held opposing political beliefs, the Gospels dont document them bickering or fighting about them. They must have had at least some success in leaving their previous allegiances behind as they followed Christ.
When we too fix our eyes on Jesus, the God who became Man, we can find increasing unity with our fellow believers through the bond of the Holy Spirit.
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, You exist in perfect harmony. May Your Spirit dwell in us that the world might see You, and believe.
Our strongest allegiance is to Christ, who gives us unity with each other.
The Twelve had two things in common. They were the first to become Rabbi Jesuss disciples. Accepting the role of a rabbis disciple in ancient Israel meant living in the rabbis presence full-time, diligently absorbing his teachings, and recruiting more followers. Aside from Judas Iscariot, all lived up to the demands of being a disciple. Second, aside from John, all of the faithful eleven disciples gave their life spreading the message of Jesus. Only John appears to have died of natural causes. This is one of the reasons we often hear about the cost of discipleship. Though we will not all pay that cost in the same way, every disciple will face the challenges and struggles of following Jesus.
