Donald Trump’s threat to imprison Hillary Clinton is a threat to Democracy
VOX ^ | 10-10-2016 | Zack Beauchamp

Posted on 10/09/2016 11:43:47 PM PDT by tcrlaf

There is no way to sugarcoat this: At Sunday night’s presidential debate, Donald Trump threatened to throw Hillary Clinton in jail if he wins the presidency. This — threatening to jail one’s political opponents — is how democratic norms die.

The exchange happened during a discussion of the controversy over Hillary Clinton’s private email server. Trump began by decrying Clinton’s conduct — which, according to the FBI, was quite bad but not illegal. He then proposed appointing a special prosecutor to investigate her, and warned Clinton that, if he were president now, “you’d be in jail”:

TRUMP: I'll tell you what. I didn't think I'd say this, and I'm going to say it, and hate to say it: If I win, I'm going to instruct the attorney general to get a special prosecutor to look into your situation because there's never been so many lies, so much deception … A very expensive process, so we're going to get a special prosecutor because people have been, their lives have been destroyed for doing one-fifth of what you've done. And it's a disgrace, and honestly, you ought to be ashamed.

(SNIP)

This is so far beyond normal that it’s hard to even know where to start.

In democracies, we respect people’s rights to disagree with each other. When one candidate wins a presidential election, the loser returns to private life or another government position. In some cases, former rivals become close friends. George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton, who defeated Bush in the 1992 election, travel together and have spent decades jointly raising money to aid the victims of natural disasters.

They don’t get sent to jail, because we believe that political disagreement should be legal.

Donald Trump doesn’t seem to care about all that.

No, not in our form of democracy, the two-party partisan system.

#20. Correct it to Axelrod was mentored by a card-carrying (in secret) communist, David Simon Canter, who was identified in a House Committee on Un-American Activities on Communist in Chicago, in 1965. His father (Harry J) was a founding member of the Communist Party USA and worked for Stalin in the Soviet Union (where he took his whole family to lives for a number of years).

Axelrod’s other Chicago red mentor was Don Rose, an admitted leftist/Marxist of sorts, but he has never been publicly identified as a member of the CPUSA those he supported their front, the American Labor Party in 1948, the cited CPUSA front, the Chicago Committee to Defend the Bill of Rights, and was mixed up with the SDS/Weathermen protests of 1968.

He slipped through the government’s internal security hearings with only one listing for the hearings on “The Nationwide Drive Against Law Enforcement Intelligence Operations”, SISS, Part 2, July 11, 1975 (he Chicago CP front).
Rose stayed under the government’s congressional hearings radar until 1975 though he had to have been noticed by the Chicago Red Squad because of his longtime communist affiliations.

Just a few historical details I thought you might like to see.

See my comments at #60. Never could find evidence that Axelrod was a CPUSA member. Nor his mother or father though there was a CPUSA elector’s list for NY City that listed a man thought to be his father. Non-Party people could sign an Elector’s list.

His mother’s career with PM magazine has not produced anything noteworthy, if at all.

Axelrod was one of those “talented” people that the Party watched and them “mentored” and “groomed” to do their work, be it teach as was the case of Angela Davis or to be one of the ideologically “affinity” people in the media. Obama is the greatest case of all. He had communists and Marxists around him and guiding him throughout his whole post adolescent life including Saul Alinsky and Frank Marshall Davis.

Who will the special prosecutor be? Gowdy, Christie or Rudy? I’m expecting Rudy to take over Homeland Security.

Maybe the special prosecutor will be someone we don’t even know.

The stuff dreams are made of.

I am betting that trumps claim to go after her legally will result in Hillary and her cabal going crazy...and making major strategic mistakes. this is the first time that she has gone up against someone that might cut her and her husbands Gordian knot of law breaking. The sword of truth cuts clean and true bringing panic to all who are untrue.

A POX on VOX.

Mr. Trump keep on keeping on
“Tell It Like It Is”

She deserves to be seated in front of a SP and investigated within an inch of her life.

Our failure to have not done this in the past (uncover the truth) has caused nothing but grief. Any American citizen can be a POTUS; every illegal baby born on American soil is an American citizen, every woman has a right to an abortion paid for by AMERICAN taxpayer dollars, etc. etc. etc.

in America NO ONE is above the law.

Even a sitting president can be fired (impeached) and then tried in a civilian court for his crimes (serving his/her sentence just like everyone else)

But according to libs, those in the ‘political class’ are now above reproach and cannot be held to the law?

bs.

not only are they held to the law... but they are expected to be held to a higher standard then the rest. the exact OPPOSITE of what the libs are proposing

get stuffed

Amazing that a red son of a bitch like him is this close to installing another communist in the WH.

At some point these marxist animals need to be dealt with.

Trump must first win the election, and then must survive the multiple assassination attempts which will probably be forthcoming, should he be elected (and perhaps even sooner.)

Zach Beauchamp is full of sheet. He would investigate and jail her because she is a HUGE crook, not because she is a commie.

Horse crap!

Treating to jail her because she is his opponent would be anathema to any free system of government. But that’s not what he said. Trump promised to appoint a Special Prosecutor to investigate what she has done...which even her toady, Comey, said rose to the level of crimes.

This wild accusation is all that they have left.

Yup, and GW’s next failure was to rehabilitate Bill Clinton, rather than treat him as a pariah. Let’s remember that in 2000 Albore wouldn’t even let Bill Clinton be associated with his campaign, that’s how toxic the “Clinton brand” was.... but GW Bush began treating Bill Clinton as just another respected former president (Richard Nixon never got such favorable treatment from either party in his post-presidency) and in time the political-media establishment was allowed to just wash away all the Clintonista scandals.

Well if one were asked to construct a news item worthy of getting pu**ygate of the headlines, what could be better than arguing over whether or not it’s appropriate to properly investigate Clinton, and is it right to jail her if guilty.

Trump (or his supporters) could add “because in a Trump Administration, the powerful, and the not-so-powerful, will be treated equally under the law.”

Hillary’s prison term should have commenced years ago.

Her candidacy is an abomination and an insult to law abiding Americans.
