House Speaker Paul Ryan appeared to take a principled stand when he distanced himself from Donald Trump. But he has infuriated Mr. Trump and his supporters, and that could hurt other GOP candidates.
WASHINGTON — When House Speaker Paul Ryan told fellow House Republicans that he would no longer campaign with or defend GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, he may have felt it was the obvious, principled position to take.
Speaker Ryan is a straight-shooting family man and devout Roman Catholic, and after the release of a lewd 2005 video showing Mr. Trump bragging about sexually aggressive treatment of women, Ryan said he was “disgusted.”
Ryan’s goal in distancing himself from Trump, he told House GOP lawmakers on a conference call Monday, was to focus on saving the GOP majority in the House, potentially imperiled by Trump’s decline in polls. But Ryan’s new posture may already have backfired. Some fellow GOP House members are furious. And national party chairman Reince Priebus pointedly has not abandoned Trump, pledging to keep spending party money on the nominee’s campaign.
Ryan appears only to have empowered Trump. The voluble billionaire, after all, clawed his way to the nomination by bucking the party establishment – and Ryan, as speaker, is as establishment as it gets. Now Trump boasts of feeling liberated.

Progressives have been so successful because they have been able to infiltrate both parties. People like Arlen Specter and Jacob Javits had more in common with the Bolshevik Party than with the Republicans. The is nothing principled about Ryan’s actions. He opposed Trump from the beginning. The Tape was only an excuse. Ryan says he wants to focus on saving the GOP majority in the House so that Clinton does not have a “rubber stamp.” He does not seem to have a problem with being Obama’s rubber stamp. The problem for Ryan is that with the internet people are beginning to see through this nonsense. President Clinton will have to tame the internet.

Baloney. Ryan is as crooked as Hillary and was waiting for another chance to stab Trump in the back.
He’s a devout Catholic. I wonder if he’s disgusted by the emails showing what Hillary’s campaign thinks about Catholics. He’s a damned fraud is what he is!
My guess is that Ryan has been looking for an excuse to withdraw support from Trump and this came along at a convenient time.

Thanks. That was fun. Unfortunately every congressman in my area are good conservatives. I still left the message to pass the word that for every republican who does NOT come out in public and support Trump, I will vote for every one of their opponents.

I use to get junk from the rep. party, sent some back with orders to quit sending....didn’t stop them, so I collected a lot of their mail and jammed it into one envelope and taped it shut, wrote on the outside,,,,does not live here...I got one piece after that: addressed to occupant and that was the last one I got....it cost them money for return to sender mail....it worked for me....that was about 10 years ago...
