The dog went to heaven; we still have Mike on earth. Things could be far far worse for us.
I recall a similar event when flying into somewhere with my mother ... DFW? ... no, probably Love Field; Mom is cheap. Anyway, as we were nervously exiting the plane, my mother patted the pilot on the shoulder and said, “Don’t worry, son. Any landing you walk away from is a good one.”
I keep this philosophy in mind when driving with teenagers.
