We've heard some weird political arguments this year. The strangest of them is raging in California, where else? There the hotly contested question revolves around an electoral initiative known as Proposition 60.
Prop 60 is a ballot baby that only Californians could conceive. The state's system of citizen-sponsored ballot initiatives, dating back to 1911, was one of those progressive schemes that managed to produce the opposite outcome from the one intended: In hopes of returning power to the people and making state government more responsive and efficient, the initiative system has managed to empower wealthy special interests, baffle the average citizen, and render the state government a sclerotic, half-paralyzed Leviathan, at once despotic and feckless. So of course Prop 60 seeks to make the government more powerful.

I had to skip that one.
hello Nevada.
The likely outcome of this law would be all adult film production moving out of California -- perhaps to Nevada. It's a significant number of jobs, once you account for all the production staff.
A resolution that only college graduates can be porn stars and only if they graduate Magna Cum Louder?
And, isn’t it a fact, that some sexually transmitted diseases, can still be transmitted even if people use condoms???
A condom can act as a barrier for fluids but it does not eliminate all skin-to-skin contact. As a result, transmission of STIs such as herpes, HPV, syphilis, pubic lice, or scabies can occur even if a condom is used. Condoms are not always used correctly, and some are defective or become defective during usage..
I read that it was already required in LA County. The result has been that far fewer porn movies are made there. This seems like a great way to get the industry out of the state. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean that g-rated movie makers will flood in instead.
Yes, that's true. A condom greatly reduces the probability, but doesn't eliminate it.
The adult film industry has their own monitoring program: every performer has to be tested periodically (monthly, or even more often). But, it's not foolproof, either.
Someone once said that true democracy and true tyranny are the same - it is when the will of the people is perfectly aligned with the will of the state
They already are going there.
If one of these actors gets an STD on set, is he or she eligible for Workers Comp?
This is an issue that needs a senate committee to study it at length. /s
Meaningful issue. ON ANOTHER PLANET.
Charlotte NC used to host a fair amount of that production work. I looked into getting in there mostly because I really didn’t have much of a future in my area of public TV land.
I wasn’t wild about the idea but being poor was a motivation. I had a line or two but they tapped out.
The elite cliques had all of the good paying freelance gigs protected from little people.
This was before I was able to get into IT.
And Hello Florida.
