Trump to Support Nationwide Concealed Carry
PJ Media ^ | November 11, 2016 | Michael Walsh

Posted on 11/12/2016 3:09:53 AM PST by BradtotheBone

Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump -- who said he has a concealed carry permit -- called for the expansion of gun rights Friday, including making those permits applicable nationwide. In a position paper published on his website Friday afternoon, Trump called for the elimination of gun and magazine bans, labeling them a "total failure."

"Law-abiding people should be allowed to own the firearm of their choice. The government has no business dictating what types of firearms good, honest people are allowed to own," Trump wrote.

It's not a departure from what he's said on the trail this year, though it does mark a shift from a position he took in his 2000 book "The America We Deserve," where Trump stated that he generally opposes gun control but that he supported a ban on assault weapons and a longer waiting period to get a gun.

"Opponents of gun rights try to come up with scary sounding phrases like 'assault weapons', 'military-style weapons' and 'high capacity magazines' to confuse people," Trump wrote Friday. "What they’re really talking about are popular semi-automatic rifles and standard magazines that are owned by tens of millions of Americans."

Very cool though Michael Walsh of PJ Media is simply quoting and linking to a September 18, 2015 Washington Post article.

One of my biggest fears when traveling is carrying a pistol in the car, driving through a rat infested city and getting nailed with felony possession of a firearm..................One of the main reasons I don't go visit my family in California.

If I can mount a 106 Recoilless on my Ranger I might drive on IH-35 again...

I very strongly approve of that. We already have “Civil Rights” positions in the Justice Department. It would be nice to turn those over to specialists who would protect the constitutional rights of all Americans.

- Overturn all diversity laws that infringe on freedom of speech, of the press, or assembly, or of religion (Sweet Cakes comes to mind).
- Overturn all gun restrictions that infringe on our individual, God-given right to keep and bear arms.
- Overturn all laws that provide for excessive fines (EPA and diversity laws).
- Make America great (and free) again.

“If we can do that for driving — which is a privilege, not a right — then surely we can do that for concealed carry, which is a right, not a privilege,” Trump said.”

Awesome quote. Did not know Trump uttered it. Wow!

Remove the stupid restrictions on silencers and full-auto weapons!

You can buy and use a silencer if you pay the 200$ tax..
You can buy and use a full-auto if it is old enough (like an old Thompson) if you pay the 200$ tax :-(

Back in the day you could buy a Thompson SMG from the Sears catalog and they would mail it to you!

Would JEB or any of the others have actually come out in favor of advancing 2nd Amendment rights, instead of just holding the line against the decay of this right?

Well, Trump just pre empted the Soros/Obama/Clinton plan for mass protests and riots to destabilize the country and to mau-mau and intimidate the American public to accepting their agenda.

If you are an illegal alien and you want to stage violent protests. please RSVP and let us know if it's going to a 10,000 man or a Million Man March so we can plan to have enough transportation to deport you.

If you are BLM or other Obama Brown Shirt paid protester, peaceful protests with no civil disruptions are the American way.

If you riot or assault motorists in their cars then don't come crying when armed citizens defend themselves.

In New Jersey the right to carry is denied to all but the well connected.

The existing nationwide background check could be repurposed for nationwide carry, but I would rather see the states run the systems and pass carries in each of them. The problem is states like Mass that will never do it because too much of their population is petrified of guns.

Guns have to become an organic part of American life again, not just in the red counties. It's going to take a lot more than a nationwide concealed carry for that. Lots of work to be done.

Am I missing something? The article has yesterday’s date but references Trump as the Republican front runner and the position paper he released on this. I don’t believe he’s said anything about this since being elected. Didn’t we already know this?

First we need national reciprocity.

Then we can get constiutional carry.

Check that map of states rules on CCW; as time goes on, it shows the shift towards shall issue and constitutional carry.

A federal law that says concealed carry must be recognized by all states can at some future date be replaced by a law saying concealed carry cannot be recognized across state lines. That’s why concealed carry is, and must be, a state issue and any such law passed by Congress should be overturned on 10th Amendment grounds.
