Donald J. Trumps shocking triumph in the American presidential election will have some unusual foreign-policy repercussions. During the campaign, Democrats frequently tried to damage Mr. Trumps standing by claiming that President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia was working for and supporting the Republican nominee. Now many may believe that Americas huge political upset could even be described as a victory for the Kremlin.
In fact, the idea peddled by American news media that Mr. Putin supports Mr. Trump is far removed from reality. Proponents of this idea have blithely ignored the assessments in mainstream Russian news media and by Russian analysts, which have never been particularly enthusiastic about Mr. Trump.
There is a lot of concern in Russia about what will happen to American foreign policy once Mr. Trump is inaugurated.

Exactly.
I’m sure that Putin would rather play chess with a chess player than a third rate checkers player.
Trump needs something to offer to Russia for their agreement to stay out of Iran when we decide to eliminate their nuke capability.
And Russia wants nothing more than Ukraine.
All we would have to do is drop the sanctions and agree not to intervene militarily....while reinforcing NATO.
What if he offers to drop sanctions?
And Russia wants nothing more than Ukraine.
Sorry, no.
All we would have to do is drop the sanctions and agree not to intervene militarily....
Or we could frack more, sell LNG to Western Europe and squeeze Russia with even more sanctions?
What do you say, Ivan?
What's in it for us?
The only thing I can see Putin offering in the Mid East is pulling away from Iran, which I doubt he will do.
Morons at NYSimes. Putin held a rather historic vote that very night in support of Trump. We came closer to WWIII had Hitlery been voted in than most Americans knew.
“Or we could frack more, sell LNG to Western Europe and squeeze Russia with even more sanctions?”
Toward what objective?
>No, Putin prefers a doormat Democrat.
No, never trumpers, cold war relics and closet democrats prefer idiocy over intelligence.
>I don’t think Putin has much interest in fighting ISIS— he will leave the dirty work to us and continue to support the Syrian regime.
>What’s in it for us?
Who cares. Assad was doing fine cornering the islamo scum until the USA tried stopping him. Let Putin and Assad clean their own house.
Cold war morons and democrats are in cahoots.
Talking out the mullahs in Iran.
**Taking** out the mullahs
Reducing the ability of Russia to fund Ukrainian separatists and saber-rattling against former satellite countries in the Baltcs and in Central Europe.
The use of the term “Cold War moron” used to be libspeak. Brave New World. You have joined the Party of Teddy Kennedy.
>You have joined the Party of Teddy Kennedy.
No. I have always been a member of party Trump.
Screw cold war idiots, screw islamo apologists, screw salt pillars.
The party of reality is among us. Join or get left behind.
I’ve never heard Trump use that term, or anything close to it. Maybe he has . . . .
You don’t think Putin has much interest in fighting ISIS? What do you think he and Assad have been doing? Is that you, John McCain? Didn’t know you posted at FR
The Russians haven’t been doing much against ISIS: the focus of most of their fighting has been in the west of Syria, fighting against Assad’s opponents.

Cold war or no cold war, Russia is not our ally and allowing her to splinter NATO and establish a significant presence in the Middle East (allied with Iran) is not in our interest.
