The Russians haven’t been doing much against ISIS: the focus of most of their fighting has been in the west of Syria, fighting against Assad’s opponents.

Cold war or no cold war, Russia is not our ally and allowing her to splinter NATO and establish a significant presence in the Middle East (allied with Iran) is not in our interest.
