During a conference call with Miami reporters, Kaepernick was asked about polls that suggested his protest was one of the reasons for the decline.
Theyre not watching football because of my stance about fighting systematic oppression and wanting the same equality and freedom for all people? I would say they probably need to look in the mirror at what they value, Kaepernick said, via Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

So Colin Kapernick acknowledges he has been implicated in the ratings free fall. Have not watched a single game since the day I heard about KC and the NFL band who spew their anti-American rant on TV. I refuse to watch ESPN, except to catch the OSU Buckeyes if that is the only venue. I cancelled the NFL Package on DirecTV, wrote bob@49er’s.com (GM 49’ers), and NFL 4-times and ESPN 4-times.
For me, it’s not him per se, rather the lack of spine of the NFL and the owners. They want their product to reflect Amerika, I want to watch a football game. When it gets back to football, give me a call. Athletes today all think they’re the next Ali who can transcend sports and social issues.
If he is so fond of Castro and upset with the US he should move to Cuba. Suspect he would earn considerably less than 19M per year in Cuba however.
I don’t watch a lot of NFL football but will now never watch any NFL game if the 49’ers are playing, ever!
I looked and saw a patriotic American. What did you see when you looked K?
The SF stands were empty for the Patriots game.
It was raining, and California fans are a bit spoiled by good weather, but still.
At 1-9 this little problem looks like it will take care of itself.
With a brand new stadium, SF has a big problem & it wears #7.
Just saw segment on ABC GMA about what can the NFL do to increase their lagging viewership?
They are discussing shorter games & better commercials!!!
How blind can they be?
I say—GET A SPINE, owners—Either ALL your players stand up for the National Anthem or they are dropped from the team. I know there is another quarterback out there who would sure like the chance to replace the Non-Patriot whiner in jersey #7.
First, I watch because I like football—and I really think that Colin K is a total ass. He talks about oppression when his life has been anything but oppression. When his contract with SF runs out & he is a free agent-—who will pick him up? I refuse to watch SF now, and IF any other team does pick him up, I will boycott that team in the future. I do NOT think I am alone in this sentiment.
There are millions of Americans who are patriotic & like the National Anthem. Same for the Pledge of Allegiance. I played in the band at high school-—as millions of other AMERICANS did. We played at all games & did parades & concerts. We played the National Anthem strongly for 4 years. EVERYONE stood up. When we did parades & band contests, we played Nation Emblem March—even the day after senior prom. Marching & playing for 3 miles with about 2 hours sleep.
This punk isn’t fit to water my horses & feed my dog. He is an embarrassment to the University of Nevada-Reno, where he supposedly got a degree in something-—no one will say. At this point, I say he got an advanced degree in STUPID-—and I have learned I cannot fix stupid.
Ask him if he is to blame for 1-15
Geez this is getting old. We, the working people of this country getting up every day trying to manage family, friends, finances, home upkeep and jobs, are the oppressors.
He needs discipline. His coaches need discipline. The owners need discipline. The NFL needs discipline. Ratings should have dropped to zero if we had the country America should be.
I've posted pictures of when he was sitting out the Anthem years ago. He wasn't called on it until this year. Notice it took him a while before thinking up an excuse for his bad behavior. IOW, this poor black slave business is nothing but horse hockey.
He and the NFL don’t seem to understand that they are supposed to entertain us and they are failing in that.
Neither have I although my dad has it on to see his Steelers.
Equality for all people is what he wants? Well,we know it won’t happen, but Kaepernick makes more in one game than I probably made in my whole working life of 60+ years.
I had forgotten about Glen. He was a great RB at Bama.
