DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — Some parents in Dorchester County are furious after nine students at Eagles Nest Elementary School were suspended for violating a school drug policy.

The problem parents say is the children weren't caught with drugs. They were accused of having sugar mixed with Kool-Aid in their possession.

ABC News 4 spoke with one parent Tuesday who said her child's infraction was reduced during an expulsion hearing at the district office. The child is now on a probationary status with the district and will be able to return to school Thursday.

Parents are coming to the school board meetings and complaining loudly about their children being suspended for possession of plastic baggies of Kool-Aid.

Middle school students have created a market for happy crack. They have been seen buying, selling and trading these baggies of Kool-aid. Nothing illegal, but disruptive?

Where did they get the idea to do this?

The school is right, IMHO.

From history? Back when I was in grade school, local stores sold “Lick M Aid”. Small packages of about a teaspoon full of Kool Aid and sugar. You would shake a bit of it on the back of your hand and lick it off. Penny a pack.

Or [gasp!] candy cigarettes!

No doubt the school district had to crack down on this, no pun intended. The teachers would have to become inspectors, making sure the students were not buying, selling or trading real drugs. Have some of these students seen the real thing at home? Are they emulating their elders?

Or the dreaded toothpicks soaked in cinnamon oil.

Oh come on, kids like doing this kind of stuff. The school should have just said, hey, this is not the supermarket, don’t sell stuff. If you want to bring and ingest sugar and Kool Aid, fine, just don’t be selling stuff.... (unless it’s a fundraiser for the choir, the Science Club, etc.)

I used to be able to buy that stuff in paper straws. Tear off the end, and pour all that sugary goodness into your mouth.

We used to do that in the 60’s! We also used to get bags of Jello for the same nefarious purpose. It was like Lik-a-maid, only better.

I remember those! Quite the fad when I was in 5th grade, well over 50 years ago. I think kids just want to buy and sell stuff, and it’s more fun if the teachers disapprove.

I was doing an experiment, and needed Jello gelatin to thicken up the water.

It worked fine so I bought a whole bunch more. The stuff didn’t work. So I increased my mixture and STILL no good. Seems that the cheap stuff I bought on sale was cheap for a reason - it was KOOLAID! (Right next to the jello, similar package - what an idiot!).

But, maybe I can cut it with 10 pounds of sugar and I can push it at the school down the road. (I wanted to dump the boxes off on the trick-or-treaters, but my wife wouldn’t let me!)

Toothpicks are verboten! They can be used as weapons...

Oh....That's what that was.

I remember the dots on the paper...They still have them I think.

And I smoked Lucky Strikes like a feign.

Alas....I sure wish I had my baseball cards.....and my comic books.

Sounds like a great idea! Package the mixture in baggies, then hang around the schoolyard selling them to the kids. What could possibly go wrong?
