Well it turns out the bible agrees, so that puts me in a majority.
At the risk of coming across as an insufferable critic of the system you undertook: Religious platitudes do not a faith make.
The best home schooling would go into a minimum of platitudes, a maximum of delving into the grace of God, over and over and over again. I kid and shit you not.
I even knew that intuitively, growing up in a SECULAR household. There was this intangible THING that I knew, if we but honored, would have hallowed us to wonders of love and success. My mom wouldn’t listen.
God has vindicated me after decades.
But also, so as not to create TOO much of a guilt trip, I wish to point out that two situations can exist:
(1) Scarcity of elect. Not even God will fix that in place, though new generations may have a better profile.
(2) Elect on a long time scale for being revealed — late bloomers. That included me.
Oakland is across the Bay from San Francisco; and it’s only redeeming value USED TO BE IT’S COLLEGES .. but the LEFT has ruined everything .. as usual.
Oakland is A TOTAL LIBERAL LAND.

As a widower with two teen kids and I being a truck driver, my pastor's wife attempted to school the kids but finances didn't keep up with expenses and the last two years of HS was in a government indoctrination center.
OK ... yeah.
Yeah, I know like I sound like I just found the philosophers’ stone and am crowing to the whole world about how good it is.
But truly the grace of God is the name of the game. It’s what makes it all continue to go for us in this sad fallen universe. God’s love is crazy by any mortal measure. We’re the ones trying to keep things “sane” — and losing because we are trying to put mortal caps on the immortal.
Now I can’t completely judge anything, but I’ve heard of a number of home school curricula. A kid might be able to quote the whole blessed Bible and still not get much about what is going on behind it with God.
The winning formula — the bet that never, ever loses when undertaken in honesty — is to do it for the sake of the glory of God. Kids are intuitively closer to this than many adults are. Their faith can often teach adults something. The ultimate act in this regard is to offer one’s whole self to the Lord for the sake of His saving it.
Late blooming can be an issue with the elect, though sometimes it has to do with trials that they must go through.
If they’re elect they’re elect and whatever spiritual cruft they may accumulate when young will be shucked off before they get to the pearly gates.
But actually practicing the use of the grace of God should be the name of the game. It’s really that simple when brought down to its fundamentals. And we should not be shy to be audacious. Children should be told that they will meet grim people who don’t know God, and they should as a first effort smile and make an effort to pass on the grace of God. (As second efforts when faced with persistent opposition, they can avoid the problem, or sometimes rebuke it even though they may get pushback at first.)
“We are ‘Independent Baptists’” tells me little except that you may have ready access to material backing up the world view I mention. However until this material is used as intended, it still does little good.

You have no idea what you are talking about. I went to Burning Man this year to bring our daughter’s utility trailer home at the close of the event. And while it’s not something I’d want to spend a week at, it is nothing like this warehouse business. And BTW, our daughter lives in Oakland, and knew some of those who died in the fire.

The Bay area must have its “sanctuary buildings”, where illegal immigrants and those who are homeless and jobless (often due to the regulatory state) can find a “safe space” for illegal substance use, etc. free of intrusive inspectors. Turned out not to be so safe.

Burning Man is in some ways more regimented.
Since I have not heard of any serious accidents, perhaps they have a institutional awareness of safety precautions and practices.
Many yuppies and yuppie type millenials attend every year. It is expensive to attend ($800/ticket).
Winnebagos costing hundreds of $ / day are rented months in advance.
Burning Man strikes me (from a distance) as having been “poshified” as of perhaps many years ago.
I still wish I could have attended one (though my enthusiasm may be misplaced).
