Frankfurt am Main (AFP) - President-elect Donald Trump, in remarks published on Sunday, described NATO as "obsolete" and suggested a deal with Russia that would reduce nuclear arsenals and ease sanctions on Moscow.

He also hailed Britain's exit from the EU and backed a speedy trade deal with the UK, but condemned as "catastrophic" Chancellor Angela Merkel's decision to open Germany's doors to a flood of refugees.

"I said a long time ago that NATO had problems," Trump told The Times of London and Bild, Germany's biggest-selling daily.

"Number one, it was obsolete, because it was designed many, many years ago," he said.

"Number two, the countries aren’t paying what they’re supposed to pay."

Nato has become a group of literally suicidal nations trying desperately to turn over the reigns of power to ISIS and Al Qaeda.

Countries that WANT to pay for NATO certainly can! I’m hoping we get out of NATO and the UN.

Probably too much to hope for so soon, but every DAY we’re WINNING, so why not dream big? :)

Trump REALLY needs to be careful. The desperate elites are running out of reasons NOT to do him in. I am VERY concerned.

A nuclear reduction treaty with Russia would be in the tradition of Ronald Reagan!

Globalist are going to go into overdrive over this! Trump is doing the world a favor. NATO MAY be the Right approach in the end but it’s too sacred to talk about changing it and as such no one really knows if as currently constituted NATO stands up to criticism. What he is doing is breaking down walls and allowing people who have seen problems for decades to speak openly about without fear of retribution. Notice that he doesn’t shut down people with different ideas and perspectives...In fact he puts them in his cabinet. Refreshing!

I switched to Trump the day he descended from the escalator in Trump Tower, and talked about illegals coming from Mexico. At the time I was leaning Rubio. Then I turned fiercely for Trump after hearing his ban on UNVETTED Muslims. Then when he talked about USA getting royally screwed every year with the $800 Billion trade deficit, I immediately knew he would be the greatest president since Abe Lincoln.

Europe should defend itself. The USA should keep a naval base somewhere in the Med. Sea and an army base somewhere in Eastern Europe. Otherwise, NATO is a useless waste of America’s time, energy, and money.

The purpose of NATO is to prevent an invasion of Europe by the Soviet Union/Russia.

It did a good job for many year when that treat was real.

That threat no longer exists. Time to move on.

NATO was organized to stop USSR during cold war. If Trump is successful in improving relations with Russia, why Europe needs NATO? And if Europe really wants NATO, then PAY for the damn thing. America is nearing bankruptcy, and is in no position to pay lions share of NATO, UN and protecting Japan, S Korea and Oil kingdoms in ME.

I was thinking the same the other day.

Reagan was good, very good, the best President in decades. He held the line against leftism, defeated the Soviets and so much more.

But Trump, if this guy can undo decades worth of leftist policy and actually make America Great Again, then yes, he will be the best President in a hundred years.
