France warned on Sunday of “serious consequences” if Donald Trump moves to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital as representatives from 70 countries met in Paris to try to revive stalled Israeli-Palestinian peace efforts.
Neither Israel nor the Palestinians were represented at the conference, which Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dismissed as “futile”.
Opening the meeting, French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault said the international community wanted to “forcefully reiterate that the two-state solution is the only solution possible” to the seven-decade-old conflict. …

Then make it a big deal about recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. If one really wants to rub it in France’s nose, help build a bridge between France’s Jewish population and Marine Le Pen’s FN - helping both in the process.

France is afraid of the reaction of its Muslim “citizens”.
France was at one time the single most important backer of Israel. Thats why in 1956 and 1967 Israel fought with French aircraft almost exclusively, and made the Mirage III famous.
And so on with all categories of military equipment, and even much assistance with its nuclear weapons program - thats right, it was France that “proliferated” nukes to Israel.
However, in 1967 France decided to get on the good side of the Arabs, seeing more benefit there, and flipped to favoring, and arming, them. Thats why Saddam Husseins air force had so many Mirage F1’s.
France has flipped hot and cold on Israel since, the socialists being mostly hostile, as we see. France may flip again with this years elections.
So what are you going to do, antisemitic France? Ball out your fists, close your and really stomp your feet REAL hard?
I think this is more than a “France decided” thing. I think it’s a “France was pressured” thing.
Even as atheists they could be practical in a worldly sense, and Israel did cut a handsome figure. This is a mistheist problem, even more than an atheist problem.
But it kind of fits the CESM stereotype. Whoever seemed to be riding higher in the saddle, that’s whom France bowed to. The USA was more principled.
I am guessing that frogs legs are not Trump’s favorite food.
