AWS is Amazon Web Services. It is one implementation of the latest so-called “cloud based” web service. Instead of hosting a site like FR on a physical web server, you rent, for a monthly fee, a virtual web server at Amazon. This virtual server is implemented in hardware, but there is built-in redundancy which prevents extended outages.

Thank the Lord! I am one of so many who for years and years have made Free Republic a necessary part of my life. My heart sank to my toes when we went down this time. I kept checking, every couple of hours, to see if we were back....I value this place so much. Today I breath a sigh of relief! We’re still kicking! Thank you Jim and John Robinson! I love Free Republic!
If it was a hack attack, I'd bet it has more to do with pizza gate than it does the inauguration of President of the United States, Donald J. Trump. (Feels good to say that)

After a 20 years of checking the board. I was checking the damn thing every hour! Thinking...THE RUSSIANS HACKED IT Should we start a F.A. (Freepers Anonymous)?
I’m in IT. I confess that, though I’ve been on FR since 1998 (different name back then), It is like having an old car that you love. But when you bought it, it was really all there was. And now, here we are in 2017. The car is underpowered, has manual window cranks, no air conditioning and has left me on the side of the road just too many times. And it always seems to happen when I need it most.
I may still love the car and have fond memories, but I have to face reality. Nothing lasts forever. For me, this is decision time.
Since those people knew we were down we can assume the 'freepers' who posted nasty comments were trolls who come here regularly. Might be a good idea to track them down on-line and give ‘em the boot.
And lately it’s burning a lot of oil and is much slower than all the other cars passing me on the freeway.
I did not know we had a facebook page. I just searched and found one, but the latest comment on it is from 2015

I’m also in IT and have also been here since 1998. And I love the same old FR format.
All the “modern” websites take forever to load and crash every browser I have on my iPad - Safari, Chrome, Brave. I was going crazy yesterday!
PLEASE don’t change FR into one of those!
Drudge is another website that loads quickly and doesn’t crash my browsers - and it’s been the same since 1998 also!

1 - we saw Trump sworn in and deliver the manifesto of recovery to a free republic.
2- we saw the parade on Pennsylvania Avenue where Trump family out styled Kennedy.
3 - we saw Marine One fly overhead taking the imposter away
4 - a day of crazed demonstration ensued with raging pink-hatted women running amok, one telling me she was just going to go to her hotel room to watch Obama videos and scratch herself.
Yes folks, the adults are now in charge here, and the loonies are not happy about it — time to consolidate power and policy, and reclaim our republic from a position of strength. We nearly lost it - never again. The enemies are still at the gate.

I love Free Republic. I realized how great a site it is after having to suffer through Lucianne.com as an alternative the past few days. I only wish it was a little more mobile friendly and allowed image attachments easier. But the bare bones allows for speedy loads and makes it a pleasure to use. Wow I missed it. Thanks, Jim.
