I always liked King Abdullah. Seemed like a fair leader in a Muslim country and a friend to the US. IIRC he and Bush 43 had a fairly good relationship. I think he and Trump will as well.
I really enjoyed the story Mark told. Imagine where he is now and started off selling t-shirts on Venice Beach - credits it to reading the Art of the Deal.
Does anyone else remember when “under God” was added by IKE to the pledge. Iirc I was in Mrs Stouts room Do remember we had quite a discussion of the importance of the change. We had a card we held up with the phase on it to remind us to include it as we recited the pledge each morning

Did you notice the theme of most of the Skype reporters was "When..."? They all wanted to know when Trump's policies would be put in place to help their particular interest.. Cleveland, or coal miners.... or whatever. People want action out of their government - not crying, and blathering and empty promises.
The American people want results. I think President Trump needs to focus this on the Dems who are obstructing everything he is trying to do.
The poor man is probably hungry all the time. He works too hard to spend much time eating - or sleeping!

We live in Central NY. So far a mild winter, but we have a long ways to go.
I know we who read Freerepublic are better informed than almost everyone, including press folks. We shouldn't be more well informed than our congress critters, but we probably are. They spend too much time fund raising and going to all the right parties.
They are really stunned at having to deal with a President Trump who is extremely well-informed.
It was added the year I was born ;-)

I've been listening to you boys and girls recite the Pledge of Allegiance all semester and it seems as though it is becoming monotonous to you. If I may, may I recite it and try to explain to you the meaning of each word?"
I -- me, an individual, a committee of one.
Pledge -- dedicate all of my worldly goods to give without self pity.
Allegiance -- my love and my devotion.
To the flag -- our standard, Old Glory, a symbol of freedom. Wherever she waves, there's respect because your loyalty has given her a dignity that shouts freedom is everybody's job!
United -- that means that we have all come together. States -- individual communities that have united into 48 great states.
Forty-eight individual communities with pride and dignity and purpose; all divided with imaginary boundaries, yet united to a common purpose, and that's love for country.
And to the republic -- a state in which sovereign power is invested in representatives chosen by the people to govern. And government is the people and it's from the people to the leaders, not from the leaders to the people.
For which it stands, one nation -- one nation, meaning "so blessed by God"
Indivisible -- incapable of being divided.
With liberty -- which is freedom -- the right of power to live one's own life without threats, fear or some sort of retaliation. And Justice -- the principle or quality of dealing fairly with others. For all -- which means, boys and girls, it's as much your country as it is mine.
Since I was a small boy, two states have been added to our country and two words have been added to the pledge of Allegiance...
