The suspect allegedly pointed his gun at Latanyas face but was distracted by the wallets on the floor and looked away to pick them up. Dennis used the brief distraction as an opportunity to draw his own gun and shoot the suspect in the stomach.
Dennis said, When I saw he had the gun in her face, and I threw my wallet down and keys, he turned to look and get the money, thats when I lit him up. He then kicked the robbers gun away and tended to the wounded suspect until first responders arrived.

Deserve's got nothin' to do with it.
A bit of prolixity, yes...............
A common and effective technique. Throw your valuables on the ground far enough away to make him turn his head and then draw your weapon.
“Shoot, shut up, wait for a lawyer when making a statement.
And then, it should be He pointed his gun at me and I was afraid for my life and I protected it.
Yep... When some pit bull lawyer gets a hold of “that’s when I lit him up” you’re toast. At that point the gun gets checked for “gunslinger” modifications and your personal choice of ammo. All of this has and will continue to be a devastating courtroom tactic for the armed citizen.
An old hard scrabble dirt farmer once told me years ago that “like it or not, justified or unjustified, every bullet had a lawyer attached to it.” He was right too!
We will have to ask LaVoy Finicum about that.
It doesnt matter. If a perp is threatening a loved one with bodily harm. I dont even care if he sees me or knows I am there. I will put a bullet in the backside of his brain bucket from behind a two way mirror to protect my loved ones.
And YES. I will use the money you want to steal from me as a distraction while I do it.
He’s still breathing. Only mistake.
He's not stupid. He's alive. How he describes what he did is his own prerogative not yours.
If you read back on my posts, you’ll see I am not condemning him. It was caution and advice. You can take it or you can leave it. Just stop your condemnation.
He, the victim, can say what he wishes when he shoots someone as it his prerogative and the poster did not imply otherwise. But the poster’s description of what the shooter said is also his own prerogative to state and it is correct. This post is of course my own prerogative to state as well.
Just as the Detroit police said the man would not be charged because it was self-defense. Apparently they didn't have the same concern for his "That's when I lit him up" claim, that you did.
Hero
But then so can I.
Yet, you still haven’t seen what the lawyer for the victim’s (perpetrator’s) family will do in civil court suing for damages.
BTW. I didn’t “claim” anything. The article clearly reports words to those effects coming from the shooter.
And neither have you.
There is idealism and there is reality. You apparently don’t live in the real world. Done now with you. No value added here.
Sounds like an ex Marine
***John Wayne would turn and throw his cowboy hat***
That was in THE SONS OF KATIE ELDER. In THE SHOOTIST he threw his wallet and at the same time pulled a two shot derringer from the wallet pocket and fired.
I love a happy ending!
