Radiation at Japan's Fukushima Reactor Is Now at 'Unimaginable' Levels
Fox News Insider ^ | 02/08/17

The radiation levels at Japan's crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant are now at "unimaginable" levels. Adam Housley, who reported from the area in 2011 following the catastrophic triple-meltdown, said this morning that new fuel leaks have been discovered. He said the radiation levels - as high as 530 sieverts per hour - are now the highest they've been since 2011 when a tsunami hit the coastal reactor. "To put this in very simple terms. Four sieverts can kill a handful of people," he explained. He said that critics, including the U.S. military in 2011, have long questioned whether Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) and officials have been providing accurate information on the severity of the radiation. TEPCO maintains that the radiation is confined to the site and not a risk to the public. It's expected to take at least $300 billion and four decades to fix it. Housley said small levels of radiation are still being detected off the coasts of California and Oregon and scientists fear it could get worse. "The worry is with 300 tons of radioactive water going into the Pacific every day, what is that doing to the Pacific Ocean?" said Housley. He added that critics are now questioning whether the radiation has been this severe all along.

I heard that a single coho salmon has been found with an elevated level of radiation.

“Elevated level” does not mean anything, except it is above the background level. Background level radiation varies all over the continents, but probably not as much as in the Oceans, which mix pretty well over time.

On the continents we easily see a variation of background variation by as much as ten times, but we do not see any difference in illness that corresponds to that variation.

It’s not burning anything any longer. Now the rods that had burned through the containment are sitting in groundwater that is leaching through It and being carried into the Pacific. There was talk of trying to create a frozen zone around it.

A voice of reason. It’s not good situation, but it’s a big ocean.

Remember the talk about soviets sinking their old nuclear subs? If true, I would think there has been quite a bit of materiel that has been quietly soaking in the ocean for the last fourty + years.

This high radiation level in the seawater is bad if CA ever decides to use flash evaporation of seawater to make drinking water. It has been discussed in the past.

Yup. We had an Alex Jones crew pretty much run out of town for running around with a Geiger counter. Don’t know if it was a setup, if Jones’ folks get tailed as a matter of course, or what, but they were threatened with arrest if they didn’t leave.

ENE News is the holy grail of the Fukishima disaster. Just start reading...maybe go back 51/2 years...whatever. Rense.com is the only news source that will report fukishima.

353FMG :" This high radiation level in the seawater is bad if CA ever decides to use flash evaporation of seawater

I recall from about a year ago, the Israelis were talking about building a series of de-salination plants along the coast
since California was suffering from a heavy drought.
I guess radiation in salt water would make this effort useless.

I was there too. we were told not to let the kids play outside. I remember the commissary had signs up that the produce, meat and milk had been tested for radiation by the vets every day.

I lived in Japan when the radiation clouds went over the island after the Soviet and Red Chinese atomic detonations from 1958-1962. The radiation levels were so high we had to stay in the house for a week.

Thank you for a dose of sanity. I’ve got a nuclear pharmacy background and a lot of the preceding is bunk.
