TV Networks Fret as Midseason Shows Fail to Connect With Viewers
Hollywood Reporter ^ | 3/17/2017 | Micahel O'Connell

The year 2017 hasn't been forgiving to the broadcast networks. With a whopping 17 scripted launches since Jan. 1, nearly all new series are languishing with low ratings, even by today's modest standards. But that may not be entirely the new shows' fault: The root of midseason's problem, some say, is the middling fall that preceded it.

"In the past, midseason success was typically built on the foundation established in the fall," says Sam Armando, lead investment director at MediaVest-Spark, noting all but NBC (and sports-lifted Fox) are down this year. "Since only This Is Us popped in the fall, there just aren't any coattails to ride on."

"Two series I've been watching: Six, on History Channel (as in Seal Team Six)"

Six was very good. It's coming back for a second season.

Fargo is coming back.”

I’m looking forward to it. The first season was outstanding, the second season not quite so much. Again, they will have a completely new cast, characters and story, although I’m sure there will at least be Easter egg scattered to tie it to the first two seasons.

I watched ten minutes or so of Two Broke Girls shortly after it debuted. It was dreadful.

"For instance I enjoyed true blood. "

There's a new supernatural series starting on NBC on July 25th titled "Midnight, Texas." It's based on a book trilogy by Charlaine Harris, who also wrote the Sookie Stackhouse books. I haven't read any of the trilogy, so I have no idea what it's about. Will give it a try anyhow.

Husband & I loved Sneaky Pete. We’ve just started The Americans - binged 1 season this week. I would recommend Peaky Blinders, the Last Kingdom and Man in the High Castle. All very binge worthy!

I’m going to have to try The Americans. I couldn’t get into The Man in the High Castle, but maybe I’ll give it another chance.

If it wasn’t for a handful of CBS shows, and being able to stream Amazon Prime and Acorn TV for the great Brit shows, we would not be watching much tv.

Zip NFL, NBA, Faux news, ABCNNBCBS and only Giant Baseball.

The nets must be depending on the liberals, BLMers, millenials and cartoon fans for their audiences.

The advertisers will soon be whacking their ad $’s for these losers.

YouTube on Roku-— Why U need ROKU ??

I use the ROKU for Hulu, Amazon, Netflix mainly. But I also use the YouTube app. I'm all ears if there's a better way....

:-)

I gave Taken a try. The first 2 episodes were okay and it was faster paced than 24:Legacy. But, the 3rd episode was about some poor muslim guy who got kidnapped and then wrapped in a vest bomb. Of course, the perp was a right-wing vigilante-type white guy. After about 15 minutes, I saw where that episode was going and turned it off.

I may give episode 4 a look, but ...

24:Legacy just doesn't have the intensity of the ole Jack Bauer seasons.

Chicago Justice seems to be another PC lawyer show, righting the wrongs via the justice system.

Training Day was sort of like Shades of Blue -- cops a tad on the dirty side doing jobs the political HQ doesn't want to do. With the untimely death of Bill Paxton, it will either get a cancellation (already moved to Saturday nights) or a remake with a differnt lead character.

Bosch - I've read all the books and love him.

Maybe because I'm old, I just don't like streaming - I don't like to change my ways, lol. So, I haven't watched it yet. I'll get there.

Lesbian agenda Homosexual agenda Black male - white girlfriend Black in position of authority Muslim agenda Affirmative action actors with poor acting skills Remake with weak black lead actor Making the white guy the stupid joke Making the black a genius All these are show killers for me. I download my tv off the web for free. And if they make Dr Who a black chick, they're dead to me too.

Some of the cable series are even worse. They will show 5 to 6 episodes, then have a 6 month break.

By the time the series returns, I forgot where it left off.

Then, there are shows like HBO's Game of Thrones with 10 episodes PER YEAR. One would think with a successful, popular show that they would be doing 20+ episodes a year -- before the popularity fades.
