One of Philadelphia’s most prominent Latin American events, El Carnaval de Puebla, has been canceled this year because of what one organizer called “the severe conditions affecting the immigrant community.” The annual parade through South Philadelphia has taken place in late April or early May for the last decade and is the city’s largest Cinco de Mayo celebration. Organizer Edgar Ramirez said as many as 15,000 gather from as far as New England and Chicago.

It doesn’t hurt MY feelings any. They can make a bigger deal of 4th of July...which is more appropriate; especially for Philadelphia.

Just checked how much I care about this unfortunate turn of events:

Yup, just as I figured.

Sort of like Kwanzaa is mostly celebrated by white school teachers.

LOL but true. I’ve heard that only about 5% of black people in this country observe Kwanzaa.

I mostly hear about Kwanzaa in the media, when, between Christmas and New Years, they will tell us “it’s day 3 of Kwanzaa” or whatever day it is.

They need to get a delegation together, and head out to The Brando to discuss this with Obama. No doubt he and The Brando’s management would be delighted to host a gaggle of illegals for a few days or a week.

Interesting. Is it racist to assume the participants are illegals or an admission?

As for a return of Carnaval, organizers will decide sometime in the future if the parade once again dances its way through the heavily Latino Pennsport neighborhood, Ramirez said.

“Let's see how things are next year," he said.

Hmmm. Hey Ramirez, will the Pennsport neighborhood be significantly LESS Latino next year? Will you still be here?

Hopefully this 4th there will be a lot less bullets being fired into the sky.

If dems and the media would stop saying “immigrant crackdown” and make sure all immigrants know that LEGAL IMMIGRANTS ARE SAFE but there is an “illegal immigrant crackdown”, there wouldn’t be so much fear.

Of course they want fear and are willing to lie to create it.

I know it's a pipe dream, but just once I'd love to hear a reporter ask "Just what does a legal immigrant have to fear?"

It has always been an American holiday more than a Mexican holiday, since it celebrates a battle that kept the French from invading the American West after the Civil War.

>>THis clearly demonstrates the Philadelphia event was primarily for illegals.

It demonstrates that the officials thought that the cerveza-loving white people would be the most harmed by cancelling the event. Like they can’t drink beer at home!

It’s an attempt to drive a wedge between Trump and the Deplorables.

It’s going to get much harder for the media to say “Immigration Crackdown” instead of “Illegal Immigration Crackdown”.

Every single person that reads these headlines knows what it really means.

Cinco de Mayo is celebrated mostly by cerveza loving Americans.

I've never seen so many Irish men and women gathered together as I did yesterday at my favorite bar, Clancy's Pub......They were even lined up outside waiting to get in. LOL!

It has always been an American holiday more than a Mexican holiday, since it celebrates a battle that kept the French from invading the American West after the Civil War.

Porfirio Diaz directed the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, giving him fame and political capital (he became one of the worst dictators of Mexico for 30 years starting some years after that) as he defeated the French in that one battle. The French counterattacked later and finally did control Mexico briefly before being thrown out by then President Benito Juarez and his forces. Benito Juarez did not want to execute the puppet leader Maximiliano (Ferdinand Maximilian Joseph), but the people demanded it.

The holiday has little significance in Mexico and is mostly celebrated around Puebla. Porfirio Diaz is not someone to celebrate, I promise. American business has made a big deal out of it as a way to have specials at the beginning of summer, lacking another holiday to use.

I always celebrate Cinco De Mayo a bit early by raising my glass on April 21st to those brave souls who won the Battle of San Jacinto.
