On the face of it, it looks a lot like Australia’s compulsory voting law. But we are not Australia, and that law is still controversial over there, although apparently not enough people are inconvenienced by it to demand a repeal.

I think if Democrats push this, then a whole BUNCH of people will vote Republican, and the GOP will repeal it.

But it will be declared unconstitutional before then.

What is it with democrats. Always more laws.

Wait a minute. People can’t afford to get an identification form, like a license, to prove they are eligible to vote, how the hell can they afford a fine. She hates the poor!

The Dems excite their voters so much that they have to threaten and punish them to get them to go to the polls.

Liberal politicians are people who have so much time on their hands that they constantly come up with idiotic ideas to inflict upon the people they are supposed to represent.

And when not doing this, they are thinking up ways to further enrich themselves and gain more power and control over others.

That’s what they do for work. What they do for pleasure is far worse.

Why would you have to do this? Isn’t voting a PRIVILEGE? I think the dumbocraps just want to ensure that their minions faithfully vote more garbage like DumblASSio, Cuomo, Schumer, and Kill-a-Brant in. The number of NYC pols being indicted for corruption (and many convicted) just blows the mind.

anyone who doesn’t care enough to vote on there own initiative I don’t want voting. I actually think low voter turn out is good in that those that don’t care to educate themselves on the issues are not voting.

That would last about 5 minutes in the Federal courts.

Will illegal aliens be exempt under this bill since you can’t force non-citizens to vote ?

If they would all vote voluntarily they could indirectly get paid to vote.... works like that already.

Unconstitutional.

Violation of the First Amendment.

Freedom of speech is also freedom to not speak.

You have to understand the New York State legislature. Three men have total power to pass or not pass legislation. The representatives are simply pawns who do what the leaders tell them to do. They can propose any sort of legislation they like, but they know it will never come to the floor. Only the legislation that the ‘three men in a room’ have approved comes to the floor.

If not, I propose a $10 fine.

No Australia doesnt have compulsory voting...Aussie is like New Zealand...you must register to vote but you don’t have to vote...

I registered and voted one time before I immigrated to America...but I didn’t have to vote...I just chose to...

I got to vote because the law changed and us 20 year olds could suddenly vote..the age went down one year...someone wanted us to be grateful and elect them to office...

it didn’t work though...most of us were unprepared to decide and just voted the way our parents did...much to the chagrin of the authors of the new law...

the law changed one month, we voted the next I think...it was sprung on us...

anyhoo there was a lot of sudden unexpected confusion and craziness...

It would be like Congress voting in early October for a new secret bill to put the age down to 17 and Obama signing it into law and everyone voting together on Nov 8 the new baby voters included...and few in the country knowing about it till it happened..but the newbies don’t vote Democrat...

:)
