White House presented Freedom Caucus with 'final offer' on Obamacare replacement
CNBC ^ | March 23rd, 2017 | Jacob Pramuk

The White House gave the House Freedom Caucus a final offer as it tries to win support for a bill to repeal and replace parts of Obamacare, but the conservative group's leader said no deal was reached by Thursday afternoon.

The lack of an agreement throws more doubts on a planned Thursday night vote on the legislation. The conservative contingent has threatened the bill's passage, as its members have said the GOP plan does not go far enough to repeal the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.

President Donald Trump met with the contingent earlier as he and House GOP leaders aim to rally enough support. Following the meeting, though, Freedom Caucus chairman Rep. Mark Meadows told reporters "there are not enough votes" to push the legislation through yet.

There is NO repeal in this current plan. Sean Spicer and VP Pence are tap dancing all over the place when asked if this contains a full repeal.

Sorry, but this is yet another sh*t sandwich we’re being asked to eat!

Do you honestly believe that at this point in time and with the Uni-party fully ensconced, there will ever be a full repeal of the ACA, with no strings attached, that crosses Trump’s desk?

I heard him talk about stage three on his interview with Tucker Carlson, but I’m still not buying it.

Trump has veto power, does he not?

He has the bully pulpit, does he not?

We’re simply holding Trump to his very clear campaign promise! I refuse to accept these B.S. arguments excusing what’s taking place right now!

Now, if there’s a grand strategy in place, and he’s implementing “The Art of the Deal” and we end up with a full repeal, I’ll admit being wrong, but I’m not seeing any grand strategy here.

Let the people see this socialism. We want to read it!! Last night there “was a deal” .

The American people have seen it and decided they want to keep the free stuff they like and take out the free stuff that other people like.

Rep. Thomas Massie is the ONLY Republican who did not vote for Ryan as speaker.

Brave man. The speaker controls committee assignments, control over which bills see the light of day, and the ability to put friends and allies where they control a lot of money. Being on record as being against him at best means you don't get any decent assignments, at worst, it means he and the GOP machinery try actively work force you out of your seat.

How did Saddam Hussien get 100% of the vote and/or parliamentary support constantly - well, a similar, although not physically dangerous, system is at work here.

I have a bad feeling that tonight, we are going to handed, the biggest, juiciest crap sandwich we have ever laid our eyes upon, and it will be presented by President Trump as a “Beautiful Thing!”

I hope I’m wrong, but I do NOT believe I am.

Yep, this is what people seem to be missing. The majority in Congress are useless. In order to get anything passed at all, Trmp has to get some support from the Ryan/RINO faction. That may be a bitter pill but its the reality of the makeup of the current GOP. Just even getting a vote and not having this lag for years was a minor miracle in of itself. If people are waiting on the mythical perfect bill, then they’ll be waiting for a train that never comes.

I had similar thoughts the other night. If phase 1 passes but phases 2 and 3 fail, what are we left with? I agree with your approach.

Yes, he has those things. And now he is the one with the phone and the pen, I just think he should use it. There’s no more time to play Mr goodie two shoes. Our Country in on the brink of destruction, and the enemies of freedom are all around us, the wild beast attack to kill the weak.

Trump has said the repeal and replacement of Obamacare must happen before action can be taken on his other plans, including a major tax reduction.

Why?

We only have one chance to repeal, and this is it! If this doesn’t include a repeal, we are screwed because there will never, ever be a phase 2 or 3!

>> You can’t repeal only because Obamacare gutted the industry. The plans that used to be there are gone. The whole thing has to be rebuilt,

Agreed. However... Trump ran on a platform of making deals -- "we're gonna make the best deals," etc. And he followed through on this so far -- made deal with automakers, military contractors, the manufacturer of AF1, etc. He's shown that a phone call is sufficient to get these people moving.

WHY, then, can't he call the healthcare providers and say, "We're going to get rid of Obamacare. We want to put your businesses back into the free market. Put together some consumer health plans that can be available and ready to roll in two months, and then we can get your industry moving again."

Why not deals with the healthcare providers??

REPEAL ONLY!

The free market will take over and sooner than later, we'll be on our way to the best, least expensive, and most available healthcare in the world, like we used to have beofre the feds began mucking it up in the 70's.

The free market is absolutely the best place for all healthcare for both economic reasons, and legal reasons. The legal reason is the feds are not constitutionally allowed to meddle in healthcare.

Economic and legal benefits notwithstanding, the greatest obstacle to Repeal Only is political. The weak, hand-wringing, corrupt politicians on the Right are our greatest obstacle to restoration of our Free Constitutional Republic.

The problem with the threat to primary out the congressmen who voted against the health replacement bill is that for the most part those congressmen are the very ones who in every other way align themselves with Trump’s agenda

Trump always said he would repeal and replace. That is the problem IMO. He needs to repeal only and let the free market replace.

If this fails today, how soon would you expect another attempt be made, and not just the attempt, but a bill that has exactly what you want in it?

But this is tantamount to walking away from the negotiating table.

If what is on the table is already unacceptable and you know that the Senate will add things that are even more unacceptable then why vote for it in the first place?
