Trump delivers ultimatum to House GOP: Pass health-care measure on Friday or he’ll move on

President Trump delivered an ultimatum to House Republicans on Thursday night: Vote to approve the measure to overhaul the nation’s health-care system on the House floor Friday, or reject it and the president will move on to his other legislative priorities.

The president signaled that the time for negotiations was over with rank-and-file Republicans who were meeting late at night on Capitol Hill to try to find common ground on the embattled package crafted by House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.).

The move was a high-risk gamble for the president and speaker, who have both invested significant political capital in passing legislation that would rewrite the 2010 Affordable Care Act. For Trump, who campaigned as a skilled negotiator capable of forging a good deal on behalf of Americans, it could either vindicate or undercut one of his signature claims. If the measure fails, it would mean that Obamacare — something that congressional Republicans have railed against for seven years — would remain in place.

“Disastrous #Obamacare has led to higher costs & fewer options. It will only continue to get worse! We must #RepealANDReplace. #PassTheBill,” Trump tweeted from his official White House account as the meeting was wrapping up Thursday night.

Moving on doesn’t mean do other great things. The President is 70 yrs old. He doesn’t give a damn about legacy. He may not run again if it’s not fun.

And worse, far worse, he CAN’T do other things. The budget savings in the healthcare bill were to keep deficit neutrality on all other plans, including paying for the wall. The debt ceiling has to be raised sometime in the next two months. The dems will vote no, these wackos will vote no, then there’s no money for the wall or anything else.

He's setting Ryan up for failure.

Fantasy; it is the professional conservatives who are betraying President Trump and the rest of the nation to appeal to their donors and district interests. They don't really care what happens to the Republic as long as they remain in Congress.

President Trump put his agenda on the line to "repeal and replace Obamacare."

“Lots more to do...”

Agreed. SO much more to do! Hang this one around the necks of the Democrats and the RINOS - especially Ryan, that traitorous POS!

One more time, morons, for those of you who have never heard of Quantitative Ease.

Obamacare will not implode. Implode has no meaning. It is fully funded with budget mechanism. You want them gone? Find 60 votes. You want the mechanism gone with fewer than 60? That’s called budget Reconciliation. It stays, it gets funded. You think it will cost too much? It’s just more bonds issued by Treasury for the Fed to buy.

There is no implode. It will be there forever. Because you didn’t want to get rid of any part of it at all.

Ryan was right. 100% right. That is one brilliant guy. From day 1, THIS is the closest you’ll ever get. Never again will there be a chance.

Actually, ultimatums work quite well in the right circumstance. They do not work well if used repeatedly

Let it implode under it’s own weight. That will be obama and the dems legacy.

No one can blame Trump for not trying. Give him time.

He needs to call them all out on the fact that they are exempt from the disastrous ZeroCare.

If he has a way to do it then he should force them all onto a ZeroCare plan immediately.

This is Trump’s plan too. Don’t blame it all on Ryan and the GOP establishment. Trump wants it passed. And it should be passed.

To negotiate well, you have to be ready to walk away.

The ultimatum is how hotly contested deals close, or not.

Trump is ready for either outcome.

In this process, Ryan has been exposed as a guy totally in over his head. Not meeting with the conservative caucus regularly when he knew they held the votes to make this work.

This guy Ryan has zero business experience, and doesn’t now how to bring two etc. sides together. He was a default choice after Boehner was ejected. He lacks charisma and any marketable negotiating skills.

He was destroyed by Joe Biden in the VP dabate, when Joe Biden was so unhinged, a clever retort would have ended it in Ryan’s favor.

Newt understood the job. Lead. Period. Be on offense, always. I think Ryan is a good soul. He is just in over his head in 2017.

Just like Captain Kirk, President Trump could beat Mr. Spock at 3D chess 9 times out of 10.

People who think Paul Ryan and his ilk are going to get over on President Trump—and patriots like Steve Bannon, Kellyanne Conway, and the rest of this Revolutionary team—simply don't understand what happened on November 8, 2016, and they still aren't giving President Trump credit for the man that he is...

“And worse, far worse, he CAN’T do other things.”

The democrats will probably win back control of congress next year if the Republicans can’t do their jobs and pass legislation. Then you can say bye bye to the funding for the border wall, for ICE, etc. The best case scenario will then be gridlock. Worst case scenario will be Trump working with the democrats.

The very first rule of negotiating is willing to walk away and not look back. That is the strongest position to have.

In any case, Trump has already won this round and will get what he wants.

“the embattled package crafted by House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.).”

Therein lies the problem. ObummerCare can’t be turned into something good with a few tweaks. It should be killed and replaced with a private market approach.

It’s not worth passing a bad bill just to say “we passed it.” we’ve had too much of that already.
