Yes, it’s not unusual in nature - though we’re supposed to aspire to superiority over them, not lower ourselves to their behavior.
There are conditions where total monogamy would be detrimental to a society, such as a small (tribal) population needs to stir the genetic pot, or a gender-lopsided one (war having killed off significant fraction of males) needing mates in lieu of population collapse. So there has been a species-survival benefit to keeping monogamy predominant but not exclusive.
Why the Left is so he11-bent on outright destroying monogamy in a large & stable culture, however, I don’t yet understand. Maybe it’s that enough of them _haven’t_ been that they would feel overwhelmingly guilty if non-monogamy remains frowned on (if not prohibited outright) - kinda like abortion, tattoos, and other major irreversible mistakes.
The Left just seems oblivious to the objective reality that the activity is about _procreation_ - fun as it is, and preventable as consequences are, all too often “life finds a way”.
It should take anyone 5 seconds looking at how open relationships have destroyed Chicago.
It has always been a major goal for the left to destroy monogamy. When you understand why then you will understand the left.
The problem with committed polygamy is it takes several desirables “off the market” who otherwise would be available to others who now faced diminished prospects. And there’s a severe bias in that arrangement toward one male & multiple females, as the “one” can service all others and share identifiable offspring relationships ... vs the reverse arrangement, where multiple men are sitting around wondering why they’re sacrificing for offspring who isn’t identifiably theirs.
Conservatism: the recognition that some lessons were learned over very long times and at tremendous cost (money & lives), and that it is very easy to go crashing down to where those lessons must again be learned the hard way.
Leftism: the belief that “if I don’t immediately understand or like X, it’s wrong and may/should be ignored”, coupled with “I’ll figure it out for myself”, not realizing how long it will take to recover from screwing things up.
And bonobos do more than group hugs.
This is nothing but psyops, pure & simple. It's part of the campaign designed to erode independent, traditional family units and replace them with state sponsored, dependent drones.
One shouldn't respond to gaslighting or any other psychological games being played upon the public with sincere, rationale replies. Rather, they should either be identified, ridiculed and/or ignored.

The argument that desirable females are taken off the market is not a valid argument so long as the women consent. A construct should not be created to compel women to choose less desirable men. I mean do we pass a law that says rich guys can’t be allowed to marry trophy wives? Of course not.
And the bias of one man and multiple females is innate. Title IX isn’t going to fix that bit of natural reality anymore than it’s ‘fixed’ any other aspect of natural reality.
From my own perspective the arguments against committed polygamy ring hollow whenever an opponent says that serial monogamy or non-committed promiscuity is acceptable.
The other side of the supply/demand argument is that the supply of real men in today’s society is become a commodity for women in a society that prizes effeminate pajama boys, metrosexuals, and mom-pants-wearing Presidents who are probably gay on the down-low. These estrogen-rich beta males do not deserve to reproduce and the world is going to be so much better off if they don’t.
So why should women have to settle for a pansy when the supply of actual men is so limited? Seems to me that the issue of polygamy would not be such an issue if it were not for the fact that it does appeal to women who want a more traditional and patriarchal relationship.
It’s also a bit of a non-sequitur when the argument is made that polygamy should be banned so effeminate, pro-abortion, anti-family males can have a reproductive opportunity made available to them that they have no intent of exercising. <<<

Around 50% of the people (aka "normies") are socialable, ambitious, and independent. They also tend to have a wide array of outside interests like sports, physical exercise, hunting/fishing, etc.
The other 50% are weirdly shaped, unhealthy, mentally unstable, and have nothing really better to do than eat, drink & complain. It is these very losers who gripe, moan and complain about the special "privileges" normies have in going about their daily business.
Since the loser/weirdos have nothing really to occupy their time outside of being resentful towards others, they spend most/all of their time thinking about how to reign in & control normies.
This battle is waged on many fronts: economically, psychologically, legally. I never worry about the threat, because it always loses (it's an unnatural construct). Rather, I simply ID whichever facet it may happen to represent, and move on.

Been saying it since I was a teenager and well before Trump made it famous.
I’ve decided at this point, since I’m okay with me, that I’m not interested in the amount of work it apparently takes to be in a serious relationship.
Rather have fun than be with anyone who majors in minor things, wants to find fault wherever they can(mostly conjured up out of thin air, and tried to make me their employee.
It’s funny to read all of the objections to people having “multiple partners” but what most of them object to is the idea of multiple partners >at the same time<.
Serial monogamists like our President (who I support) are acceptable to these people even though his multiple marriages would offend them only if the marriages were concurrent. But because they’re consecutive it’s somehow acceptable.
And what is considered ‘acceptable’ in a fleeting moment in a given place is also irrelevant to certain Laws that will be obeyed or risk extinction. A culture also is subject to Survival of the Fittest. If we persist in fostering a value system [or lack, thereof] that selects our society for extinction, Nature will oblige.
Regardless of whether it is multiple opposite or same-sex, regardless of how many people are in the intimate relationship, the same fundamental rule applies: Being a person who has intimate contact with multiple partners who themselves also have multiple partners is guaranteed not to last w/o negative consequence.
Period.
Nature cannot be cajoled, manipulated, cheated, deceived, bullied, etc. We cannot do whatever we want. We will correct our own self-destructive behavior or we shall be Corrected.
You’re absolutely right. Women are more than willing to share the attentions of an alpha male, rather than have the exclusive devotion of a lesser beta male. Harems already exist for both single and married alpha men; you just don’t publically hear about them.
