This idiot not only doesn’t understand the Constitution, nor the entire concept of separation of powers.

This isn't as much of a stunt as you may think.

The 25th amendment says:

4. Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.

This bill establishes "such other body" under the 25th amendment.

Look again. See my prior post. This is authorized by the 25th amendment.

Well, Yes.....if that is this idiot’s way out of accepting Trump, then let him get it implemented by a new Amendment.

To my mind, you could put all the living ex-Presidents in a bag, shake it up, and guess what you’d have?

It’s worse than a fundraising stunt & not following the Constitution, it’s playing into the hands of 0 the insurrectionist and seditionist.

No new amendment is needed. All that is needed is a compliant Congress to pass this bill. Trump will never sign it, though, then it goes to a veto override if our Republican Congress really wants it - or a possible Democrat Congress in 2019.

Earl blumenauer, the bicycle law nazi of Portland, Oregon, was a mistake, from the gleam in his daddy’s eye, forward.

He is a picture perfect example of what was/is wrong with Portland!!

Just asking for this because there are 3 living Dem ex-presidents and 2 Bushes (with Poppy being agin’ Trump).

Were it when Nixon, Ford, and Reagan stood next to Carter and Clinton, they’d be decrying such a notion.

Even if they change the procedures, they’d only change them back when it threatens the next Dem-Rat.

Yeah, it is.

Clearly the 25th says what it says but just as clearly it can ONLY apply to the President in office at the time. Trump was NOT the president until January 20 and immediately upon taking the oath of office Obama and his entire elected Administration were out of power.

No previous President, or VP has authority to do anything since they are no longer in office.

I agree it is legal, but the politics aren’t there.

In other words, this is NOT going to garner much support, and it will not even get a floor vote.

And even IF the democrats were to win Congress, in 2 years time Trump will either have drained the swamp or failed.

Having a failure in the White House is actually good for the dems.

But still, the anti-Trump hysteria is starting to wear off. I can’t see it being sustained at this high level all the way into the 2018 Congressional elections.

Trump’s doing better now. We see it recently with his actions overseas. He’s showing the world what a REAL president does with American power. His ratings are going up. Another report posted here says Trump is starting to get better ratings with Millenials.

I believe he’ll continue to do a much better job. I can see a trickle of hope that will soon be a flood. I hate to quote the murderous bastard, but Osama bin Laden once said, “people bet on a strong horse”.

As Trump grows stronger and his policies start to have an effect, I think we’ll see crap like this disappear, too.

This bill would give them the authority under the 25th amendment as the "other such body."

I agree that the politics is not on the Democrats' side. However, this should be another lesson to the Right that liberals NEVER stop trying, no matter what the odds of success are. Republicans always look for the compromise, even when they have strength on their side.

At this point, with no political power and no prospects of regaining power any time soon, all Democrats can do to amuse themselves is beg for money from the schmucks that are their remaining rank and file. This drives them to use their time thinking up socialist and communistic ideas to put in fund raising letters. Ole Earl has produced a gem that will get him checks from the 35 remaining Blue counties in America.

Maybe I should have been more clear. I agree with your reading of the 25th. My expression was merely to reflect the reality of getting such a notion approved.

To the broader issue you bring up, well, I *DO* wish there was a higher level of Constitutional literacy in this country.
