An apology from Georgetown and the Society of Jesus’ Maryland Province for their roles in the 1838 sale of 272 enslaved individuals for the university’s benefit took place today in the company of more than 100 descendants.

“Today the Society of Jesus, who helped to establish Georgetown University and whose leaders enslaved and mercilessly sold your ancestors, stands before you to say that we have greatly sinned,” said Rev. Timothy Kesicki, S.J., president of the Jesuit Conference of Canada and the United States, during a morning Liturgy of Remembrance, Contrition, and Hope. “We pray with you today because we have greatly sinned and because we are profoundly sorry.”

Maybe the descendants of slaves should provide material gratitude toward the three institutions mostly responsible in freeing their ancestors. The Army of the Republic, the Republican Party and American Christianity.

Just wondering how far back current western civilization should go with apologies. Some examples below:
The colonial Chinese?
The colonial Japanese?
The colonial Spaniards?
The colonial English?
The colonial French?
The colonial Prussians?
The colonial Romans?
The colonial Greeks?
The colonial Persians?
The colonial Mongols?
The colonial Assyrians?
The colonial Babylonians?
The colonial hunter/gathers of the stone age?

Where is the cut off for apologies with hundreds of more examples throughout history. Also, where is the apology from the African tribes that captured the slaves for the New World and other places.

All of the above was the way of the world during those times. It no longer is in large part due to some old wig-wearing white men around 1776 who created a new cultural/political dynamic that so many have followed and made the world a better place. Also, that dynamic was built on Judeo-Christian ethics.

You need not be a Jew or Christian to subscribe to those ethics that have been so beneficial in the past. Our youth are no longer taught such and the world as a whole is forgetting them.

Said ethics/good values include: self-accountability; self-control; courtesy; initial respect; decency; integrity; honor; loyalty; empathy; compassion; tolerance to a point; forgiveness to a point;...

Disclaimer: I'm not Jewish nor Christian. I'm agnostic, but still conduct my life by the above ethics and values.

Slavery and rape aren’t wrong when Muslims do it.

1607 was the year my family’s first ancestor came to Virginia as an indentured slave. He was a carpenter.

Wow! What a great piece of ancestral history.

The Pussy Hatters, snowflakes, "Progressives", moochers, and whiners haven't got the slightest idea of what people went through to come to America.

Much less what it took to build this great country.

The one that they now ridicule, sneer at and spit on.
