Run by the right, OAN is the best news channel you're not watching
New Yorkj Daily News ^ | December 25, 2016 | Don Kaplan

The most balanced cable news on television is owned, operated and backed by big money fans of the right wing.

There are no "mainstream media" liberals pulling the strings behind OAN, the 3-year-old digital channel available in about 15 million homes. And it's by far one of the most fair news outlets around, serving up a daily diet of ad-free, non-ideological, nonstop news — without smirking, snarky anchors or much fanfare.

In terms of balanced content, it leaves Fox News Channel, MSNBC and CNN in the dust.

It's about time someone filled the void. Most cable news now more closely resembles talk radio.

OAN, which stands for One America News Network (there's no second "N" in the logo), is actually beating Fox News sibling Fox Business in the cut-throat ratings race, according to Rentrak, which measures viewers differently than its rival, Nielsen.

But OAN is growing.

Herring says he saw an opening for a mostly straight-news driven channel when CNN started to fill its primetime with reality shows like Anthony Bourdain's travel show, "Parts Unknown."

MSNBC and Fox were even riper for competition because, while they may be ideologically different, their programming is the same.

"We did a lot of research and we found that MSNBC and Fox actually looked remarkably similar," says Herring. "It's just an anchor sharing their opinions for an hour," he said.

They have only two analysis shows - Tipping Point and Daily Ledger - both pretty good.

The young woman running Tipping Point is beyond smoking, but she’s also beyond brilliant. Someone needs to put a quaalude under her tongue before the show starts because sometimes she’s moving too fast, and it gets shrill. If she brought it back 4 notches, down from 11, she would be unstoppable.

Daily Ledger is good, but its young and needs balance from the left. He needs to allow the left to willfully unpants themselves on his show. Everybody on the show agrees with each other.

Nobody beats it for journalism. Their documentary segments are sick. White Helmets is their latest one, and it is devastating. They remind me of what 60 minutes used to be, minus the selective editing slanted massively left.

The actual anchors themselves are basically newsreaders, and they pump news out. The news stays the same throughout the day, so if you catch it in the AM, its not going to appreciably change. That has to change a bit.

Mix of guys and gals reading the news. Some anchors are positively smoking in a way Fox wished they could have done in the salad days of Fox. All are smart, and they have been coached to just deliver the news and leave their body language on how they feel about it out of the mix.

What cannot, cannot be beaten is their ‘Moments in History’ that they run as PSA spots in their ad roll. Positively American, and relentlessly Originalist, small government, and pro people.

You will not fail to have a better day on average by watching morning news from this channel while getting ready in the AM.

The spots are an adult version of ‘schoolhouse rock’, but for history and government.

It’s the only media I pay for. You can either get Klowd TV for the Roku, or now you can JUST get OAN for just over half ($4.99/month).

I’m so happy to hear their circ is climbing. Yeah, Fox bollixed it up. FBN is still good, and should be available on Roku, but to my understanding is not.

“It is the ONLY national newscast that we watch in this house.”

Same here. I simply cannot watch CNN or FOX. Even the local channels are useless liberal propaganda.

One America News IS what Faux News pretends to be. We can get it at our Florida home so we bought a cheap laptop and had the OAN app installed. We have the wiring set up to connect with our living room TV so we now can watch when we want. Also you can do the same with you pc. In NYC we watch OAN all the time.

I was glad to get OAN on DirecTV. Straight up news from the USA and worldwide. No clowns left or right.

One can subscribe to the network (three channels) via video streaming directly to one’s PC correct?

Yep, KlowdTV. The have two packages now, one for $7.99 and one for $4.99 that include OAN.

Most of the other channels in the packages are pretty obscure, and several of them have free streaming on their websites. I've hesitated because I didn't want to pay $7.99 for basically one channel I'd watch. Now the $4.99 deal is a little more tempting.

It really is a great news channel. Slightly boring because it’s straight news without much flash, but let it be said again, the emphasis is on Straight News. Little or no opinion that I’ve seen so far... Currently on DirecTV channel 347.

I get CC on many channels but when I checked OAN yesterday there were none. Is there some particular setting I’m not aware of? I’m on Direct TV and as far as I can tell CC’s are enabled.

I switched from Comcast to Verizon FIOS last summer (southeast PA), Verizon has it. Is Verizon FIOS available where you are?

Am I missing something? I clicked on DTV 347 and up comes a screen saying I have to subscribe to something???????

I hardly watch Fox anymore and also am feared that the Murdoch sons wives are going to change Fox in a less desirable direction.

When I was going through several surgeries I found OAN.

Great wholesome programs. They had a cop show based in Canada that was terrific.

Did not know they were a news network now.

Have been watching OANN exclusively for two years. It is real news on steroids. It takes getting used to, the amount of information they convey in a segment.

Evenings they run right of center commentary programming.

No commercials yet.
