By “ON”, they mean “IN”. At first, I thought it was growing on the outside of the ISS. Now that would give reason for concern!
It’s not mysterious. It’s just not yet identified.
The ISS has been up there 16 years. No surprise that there would be fungus growing on the walls. Just look at my bathtub!

It’s just toenail fungus. What we didn’t know is that it organizes into flesh eating zombies when exposed to low gravity for lengthy periods of time.
