63% of men think women mainly wear makeup to trick people into thinking they're attractive

Makeup shamers, as beauty guru NikkieTutorials recently explained in a YouTube video, are those who try to make others feel guilty or inferior for enjoying cosmetics – they believe women wear makeup because they are too insecure not to or are just thirsty for the male gaze.

New YouGov data suggests that makeup shaming may be just as prevalent as NikkieTutorials reports. The majority of US adults (55%) feel that women mainly wear makeup in order to trick people into thinking they’re more attractive – specifically, 63% of men feel this way. Similarly, 43% of Americans agree that women wear too much makeup.

I don't wear makeup much anymore, but I'm sure that my fellow humans are happier when I do.

You have to wear a little or you are not well groomed.

And ick yuck to facial hair on men or women. Do something. Get rid of it.

“Maybe she’s born with, maybe it’s Maybelline” actresses never needed much.

Most women can’t live without mirrors, find a man on the street with a mirror on him.

So tell me, just who are women trying to “trick”? They are always wondering if a garment would look good on themselves, never if it would look good on someone else.

Why not wear burlap bags and stop grooming, too? If one is opposed to makeup, why expend any effort at all trying to make oneself look better?

Many women want to look good to outdo the other women. It’s a competition thing.

We need a statistical study to determine what percentage of folks are getting tired of the endless barrage of useless statistical studies.

The best thing about dating a woman that doesn’t wear makeup is that she’ll look the same in the morning as she did when you went to bed.......

I recently saw a woman using her smart phone camera as a mirror while applying eye makeup.

My 2nd serious girlfriend at 21 was a “stunning” blue-eyed blonde from Glendale, CA - a knock-out for an Indiana boy.......but I went into total shock when I first saw her without any makeup - homely, no eyebrows or eyelashes (blonde), and find out she’s totally focused on her looks all the time - and I knew why. She later became famous on TV and all of you would know her if I told you who she was.

The girl I married 44 years ago had an appendectomy yesterday, and even coming out of surgery with zero make-up she is beautiful at 71 with a “naked” face. True because others say the same thing. I am so blessed. But she’s 100x more beautiful as a person than she is physically.

Our world is so looks oriented, I think a lot of women would never find a man without make-up.

I think there are 2 kinds of make-up - one that’s ok, another that’s not. It’s ok for a little to enhance one’s natural looks.

But it’s not ok to so paint oneself as to totally misrepresent what one really looks like. It’s actually a form of deception.

Ok - flame away gals......

Now ask yourself, if you married the second pic without having seen the first pic might you feel cheated or would you just make a note to never question cosmetic spending?

The only romantic advice that I remember giving my two sons was to “take her to the beach and see what she looks like wet”. I have a couple of lovely daughters-in-law and a number of grandchildren.

Boy, I looked at her makeup and thought...."She's trying to trick me!" And then I had a second thought....

Miss...Would you like a drink?

Why thank you.

Can I have your phone number?

Sure

For many years I wore little to no makeup. Now I wear it most days. It makes me feel “put together” and better in general. Plus, I’m a rep for LipSense, harder to demo the product if you don’t wear it. LOL.

I find it hard to slam something that has worked out quite well for thousands and thousands of years. Red lips, eye highlights, good hygiene - the human race keeps growing. Something is working.
