We're all murderers now. Health care blame game.
National Review ^ | 05/04/2017 | David French

Bob is dead, and everyone is to blame but Bob.

They say that high blood pressure is the silent killer, and in Bob’s case, they were right. Years ago, Bob lost his health insurance after Republicans repealed Obamacare, so he started skipping his annual checkup. It was too expensive to pay out of pocket, and the free clinics were just too far away and too crowded. Besides, he felt okay. A little tired maybe, but there wasn’t any emergency. At least not until he was running across a rainy Target parking lot, carrying bags of groceries in both arms, and his diseased heart stopped.

Now Bob is dead. Paul Ryan and Donald Trump killed him. The prophecies had come to pass: The GOP health care bill has real consequences, not just political ones. We’re talking about people who could die if this bill passes. — Tom Perez (@TomPerez) May 4, 2017 But wait. Maybe that’s not right. Bob was overweight, you see, and had been for years. Like so many millions of Americans, Bob had grown up on the government’s food pyramid, and he learned that a low-fat, high-carb diet was the ticket to good health.

So he dutifully did what he was told. When his waistline expanded, he switched up his carbs and dropped the Twinkies in favor of healthy treats like nonfat cookies. Still, he got bigger — so big that he was short of breath after walking up even a short flight of stairs. Little did Bob know that those government-endorsed carbs were slowly poisoning him — making him fat, hurting his heart, and preparing him for that fateful day in the Target parking lot.

Now Bob is dead. Then nanny state killed him. Its junk science made him obese. But wait. That’s not the whole story. Bob was depressed and anxious. He hadn’t had a good job for years, and his once-bright future had crumbled before his eyes. He had a promising career years ago, working with Nokia, a dominant technology company that was thriving selling the one piece of technology that every person in America wanted — a mobile phone. Heck, Bob even heard people were ditching their land lines, buying the most lavish cellular plans, and living exclusively mobile-telephone lives. Bob will live on. Not as a flesh-and-blood father, son, and ex-husband but rather as something far more important. He’ll live on as a symbol. More than that, really — he’ll be a political cudgel. Then came January 9, 2007 — the day Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone.

If you can imagine Pearl Harbor but without an effective counter-offensive, then you can imagine the effect of the iPhone on Nokia. The company collapsed so thoroughly that books were written about its decline and fall. And when a company collapses, there are human casualties — humans like Bob, who never again regained his career footing. He never again enjoyed that same feeling of hope and opportunity. Depression ate away at his insides, hurting his heart until it couldn’t take even a short sprint in a driving rain. Now Bob is dead. Steve Jobs killed him. The information age passed him by.

But wait. There’s more. Bob was divorced. His ex-wife lives with his kids an entire state away. She left him five years ago. Her job took her to Nebraska. Bob’s sick, elderly parents were in Oklahoma. He couldn’t bear to leave them, and she told him that she wasn’t going to set aside her career dreams for the sake of his family. She’d sacrificed enough. It was her time now. She had a chance to make something of herself, and he could help her, or he could stay behind. He stayed behind. She pursued her dreams. And the pain of it all drove him to the bottle, where he downed beer and bourbon until alcohol placed further strains on his broken heart. Now Bob is dead. Feminists killed him. They taught his wife that career was more important than family. But really Bob will live on. Not as a flesh-and-blood father, son, and ex-husband but rather as something far more important. He’ll live on as a symbol. More than that, really —he’ll be a political cudgel, a weapon to use to pound your ideological enemies. Because in modern politics, arguments are about extremes, and there is nothing more extreme than death.

Who killed Bob? Let’s first ask this: Whom do you want to blame? Whom do you need to blame? Because we can make almost any allegation work. But there is one thing that we cannot, must not, do. Our politics matter more than his choices. We cannot blame Bob.

Bob knew he had a heart condition but avoided any procedures to mitigate it due to his $8,000 out of pocket copay I under Obama Care. Plenty of free condoms though.

in Ireland, we have socialised healthcare, they killed my uncle with mrsa and tried to blame us, nearly killed my dad with a heart attack (we had to use private health insurance to pay for his bypass— oh yes you missed that part— you still need private healthcare— did you not know that?)....

if anyone is dumb enough to think single payer works, i have a nigerian general who has 20 million to deposit in your account...

My questions would be to this story of “Bob”:

What happened to Bob’s mistress, Wendy, the trailer-park gal, who was left alone after Bob’s funeral?

What happened to Bob’s mystery child from a 1988 two-week affair with Donna, the Waffle House gal?

What happened to Uncle Winford, the crazed uncle of Bob’s family who suggested that he might have been the second guy in Dallas for the Kennedy shooting?

What happened to Bob’s former school buddy, Woody, who mysteriously disappeared in 2008 after suggesting he was a part-time liaison of Hillary Clinton?

Bob killed Bob for not plopping down 40 bucks at the local pharmacy for a blood pressure monitor.

My blood pressure meds cost $4 a month. I could probably make that much selling pine cones if I had no other option.

Am I a bad man for reading this and giggling the entire time?

(I've read Atlas Shrugged twice... but at least a hundred times I've gone back over the part about Kip Chalmers and laughed about it.)

What about Bob’s twin brother...Barkley? Is he still living in a cabin in Alaska, with his Eskimo-live-in girlfriend?

And Bob’s cousin...Morty? Didn’t he get sent off to prison in Honduras for illicitly marrying eight women?

I’m not Bob. I have preexisting conditions too. I take care of myself. I worked hard and sacrificed to get the medical care and coverage I need. I am not selfish and whiny. I do not demand someone else provide for me. I do not demand complete strangers be forced to lose what they had so I could have something. In other words, I am an adult.

Bob couldnt afford to pay out of pocket for a physical exam

but when his tire blew he got a new set installed for $1200
And when the plumbing backed up he paid $250 for a pliumber

Oh and Bob is paying $175 a month fior a family cell phone plan on ATT - unlimited data
Plus he has hbo and Netflix

Surely the democrats could make car repairs, plumbing repairs and social media a human right to be covered by government?

And that’s the bottom line. Be a responsible adult, not a whiny loser.

Life Expectancy In U.S. Drops For First Time In Decades:

http://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2016/12/08/504667607/life-expectancy-in-u-s-drops-for-first-time-in-decades-report-finds

...that's UNDER Obamacare!

There is a downside to all the "free stuff" Obamacare provides. Drugs have side effects, and some of them are potentially lethal, there is NO "safe" dose of radiation, etc etc.

>>Obamacare. Who benefits? Undertakers.

Not even them because middle class families that would have opted for the big open casket funeral and burial are now being forced by globalization and government confiscation of their incomes to choose the cheaper cremation.

Great article.

Especially like the part about the federal government's "food pyramid" (which had several earlier incarnations –all wrong– before the pyramid).

In fact the medical establishment is equally at fault for accepting the "eat a low-fat diet" and "lower your cholesterol with toxic drugs" advice.

And the medical establishment has "killed" many, many more Bobs by over-prescribing opioid drugs.

Lost job, lost wife, fat, drinks, NOTHING is is fault!
But $$ to burn on expensive car, all kinds of “toys” new pet, too.
