Gowdy Suggests Clinton Entanglements With DOJ Deeper Than Suspected
Washington Free Bacon ^ | 05/17/2017 | Nick Bolger

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R., S.C.) suggested that former F.B.I. Director Jim Comey's decision to hold a news conference last July surrounding the investigation into Hillary Clinton was in response to the meeting between former President Bill Clinton and former Attorney General Loretta Lynch.

Gowdy made his comments during a discussion with Fox News host Martha MacCallum on Tuesday night.

"I think when history knows the full fact pattern that led Director Comey to have that July news conference – I mean, I think what your viewers know is a meeting on the tarmac between the spouse of the target of an investigation and the attorney general," he said.

"What your viewers don't know, Martha, and what Jim Comey frankly can't tell them because it's classified and I can't tell them because it's classified: There were a lot of other reasons that Jim Comey decided to take that decision upon himself," Gowdy said. "I think history is going to be much kinder to Jim Comey in that July press conference than the Democrats were when he had it."

After MacCallum questioned if Gowdy was insinuating that Comey had pressure on him not to prosecute Hillary Clinton, Gowdy quickly discredited the theory.

"I don't think the guy feels pressure. I think he wanted the public to have confidence in the investigation and the outcome," he said. "He made the only decision he could have made with respect to appropriating that decision away from the Department of Justice and making the decision himself."

"I only take away from that that you're suggesting that there were more entanglements between the Clintons and perhaps the Justice Department than everyone understands," MacCalllum said.

"You're very perceptive," Gowdy concluded.

I like Gowdy but this kind of unsupported quasi insinuation about a undefined ‘something’ does not advance anything at all. A waste of breath.

I really don’t follow what Gowdy is getting at. He’s saying that Comey will end up looking good, but that there was no pressure on him to exonerate Clinton, but that there were “more entanglements” between the Clinton campaign and the Justice Department than the public is aware of. So, what is his point?

OK. If Special Prosecutor Mueller investigates if Trump unduly tried to influence the FBI investigation of Flynn, will he also investigate if Obama/Lynch unduly pressured Comey in the Clinton investigation?

I saw this segment. Any more, I don’t trust Gowdy. He has to be aware of Comey’s past entanglements with the Clintons, Lockheed, HBSC and the overall corrupt establishment. Which means if Gowdy is trying to gloss over Comey’s actions regarding Hillary, he is a part of that corrupt establishment as well.

Gowdy is dead wrong. Comey has and had no such authority. It is a clear violation of his responsibilities. He should have either resigned or made his objections know publicly.

OK. I am saying it. Russia DID try to influence the election but they did so to help HILLARY get elected, not Trump.

I made the point that in general the people whom you have evidence of illegality on are the ones that you TRY to get elected. The Trump-Russian narrative doesn’t support this.

None of the deleted or damaging Hillary emails besides DNC or Podesta ones have surfaced suggesting people that have them like the FBI or enemies want to leverage them.

But think of other Russian interests.

They would like us to remove tactical nukes from Europe.

They would like us to let the military deteriorate.

They would like us to NOT develop our energy resources. A drop in oil price would have a massive impact on Russia economically.

They would not want us to build up our military intelligence.

They would not want us to develop our military technology.

They would not want us to be secure from terrorist attacks.

On each and every one of these issues, the candidate the Russians would NOT want to get elected would be Donald Trump.

I think most people who believe this story was falsified by a politicized intel community instinctively know this, but I think it is worthwhile to state it unequivocally.

That was my reaction. He seemed on the point of insinuating something illegal, then backed off, then made another insinuation about contact between "the Clintons" and the Justice Department that again raised the possibility of some undue pressure, pressure that he had just denied existed.

I watched that clip because someone posted it here. I didn’t get what he was trying to imply either. It made no sense to me.

I don’t get what he’s trying to say either. Why is this classified? Trump should declassify it.

Good analysis. Gowdy is probably just spouting off, trying to look like he has some special insights. Dropping breadcrumbs that don’t lead down a particular path.

All I can think of is that he's saying there was contact between the Clinton campaign and the Justice Department, but that this did not rise to the level on applying pressure to drop the investigation. Maybe the Justice Department was just giving the Clinton campaign an ongoing "heads up" regarding the status of the investigation.

By the way, a few days ago, Lindsey Graham also made the claim that there was contact between the Clinton campaign and the Justice Department.

All this "..the Russians were behind Trump, Banner, Hillery, John Podesta, behind every curtain....to keep anyone from digging deeper or have the courage to reveal how complicit in dealing with Russia as were the Clinton's, Pelosi's John Podesta, Maxine Waters, and many other so called Democrats.

Bullshiite. Comey was placed in the position of FBI Director specifically to provide cover for Clinton Crime Inc.
