Understand your point, but if people are getting back more than they pay in then it becomes welfare. Most people get back more from SS and Medicare than they pay in, hence most Americans are on welfare.
The only fiscally responsible solution would be to stop SS payments and Medicare eligibility once a person has used up what they paid in during their life.
“emphasis on work requirements for able-bodied people “
They will be saying that Republicans want to throw blacks out in the streets and kill them.
Who said “black” first?
That takes Congress, 100%. If those clowns are scared to repeal Obamacare (you know, what they were sent there to do more than anything else), what makes anyone think they'd have the balls to touch Medicare and SS?
It’s outrageous! Swamp dogs expecting to get paid because Obama insert them in a few years ago.
Let’s see a comprehensive audit of SNAP and other programs.
How is it that some Welfare Queen pulls out a dozen EBT cards and nobody asks why? How many welfare recipients are collecting from more than one state? Or spending the benefits of someone who reached room temperature years ago?
I can remember when I was living on the north side of the Houston ship channel in the 1970s. If I stepped outside around 3AM it was literally difficult to breathe. At that time you could make a case for something like the EPA. And maybe if it was destroyed entirely we would be going too far. But CO2 is a pollutant? Not buying it.
They will latch onto this and make it the next 24/7 Trump bashing fest.
WINNING!
Dam! You can't do something like that. Who the he11 does Trump think he is?
Somebody is going to show him in the Constitution where it says that the feds are responsible for food stamps and stuff and he'll be sorry then!
Just wait.
First of all...HOW SAD is it that this would be more than he would want to get? Really? That's more than he really wants? And that's good and something to be happy about?
And this is what I said...slashing entitlements by 1.7 trillion will not happen. Your post does not change my post. I did not say he won't get ANYTHING (did I?). I said he won't get this. Honestly...I do not expect him to even get close to this. And when all is said and done...I will suspect there will many more people here on FR that will be VERY DISAPPOINTED with the compromise on the FY 18 budget than will be elated with the progress. I hope I am wrong...but I am pretty sure I won't be.
I don't care how good he is at making deals. You have to have an honest broker on the other end when making a deal and the swamp is anything but that...and that is a fact.
I like you feel I am entitled to all of the money they took from me for SS and Medicare for all the years I have worked and paid into the system.
I was made a promise that I would get that money back and to have that promise broken now means my money was stolen from me.
Anyone with contacts within the Trump team, please forward pertinent threads to them like this one and most all of the posts that Liz researches!!
Understand your point, but if people are getting back more than they pay in then it becomes welfare.
If you put money into a retirements account every month for your entire life and receive even CD type rates, When you turn 65 you will pull out many times what you paid into it. Fact is, if you put into a 401k what you put into SS, you’d be better off by a couple of orders of magnitude at age 65.

Now, those that collect SS disability are a different story.
The only fiscally responsible solution would be to stop SS payments and Medicare eligibility once a person has used up what they paid in during their life.
Regarding Medicare, I’d like to see it go away as well. Perhaps reducing benefits and drastically increasing deductibles, while reducing the payments into it. Frankly, there is little Medicare will do for me. I’m 63 and am so into natural cures that about the only stuff it can do for me is cover broken bones, hip replacement and stuff like that. And those things are not that expensive. Well, the former isn’t and the latter shouldn’t be.
But as a Christian I don’t feel the need to spare no expense to keep this earthly body alive as long as possible.
What counts is what is in the budget that he signs.
Like the one he just signed.
Recall the Paul Ryan balanced budget resolutions that involved medicare cuts that the House voted for a few times
(they never passed a budget with these cuts in it).
Never intended for them to be law.
1. Get rid of Baseline Budgeting.
2. D.C. will implode.
Well, if the school decides to lock the dumpster, it might accelerate their timeline for moving up to garages and houses ...
Sadly, something like this is every bit as D.O.A. as any of BHO’s budgets (not 100-0 but, just as dead).
I can only hope this somehow fits into a greater plan in “the art of the deal.”
