Two US Air Force B-1B Lancer bombers along with the navy's Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer were reportedly deployed in the South China Sea on Thursday (8 June), the military said.
The planes flew a 10-hour mission from Andersen Air Force base in Guam through the disputed waters and operated with the San Diego-based USS Sterett in a bid to "sharpen their combat skills".
The operation was aimed at augmenting interoperability between the Navy and the Air Force "by refining joint tactics, techniques and procedures while simultaneously strengthening their ability to seamlessly integrate their operations," according to a statement by the Pacific Air Forces.
However, the Air Force stressed that its mission was only part of the Pacific Command's regular bomber presence program in the region and was "not related to any specific situation or nation".

And can cover a 5,000 mile radius within 5.5 hours.
Upon approach to release it's weapons it's traveling at Mach 0.92 (700mph) no more than 100 feet off the surface of the sea.
The LRASM has a range of 600 miles at 500mph along a programmed, elusive route. A cluster of them can be launched from a single source and then hit you from all sides.
We have about 50 B-1B's operationally ready and in service. No other nation has even a dozen supersonic heavy bombers in service.
I hope N Korea is watching....that little punk needs his nose rearranged and these just might be the items to do that if he gets stupid.
For later
So when did our Navy get B-1B’s: US navy deployed B-1B supersonic bombers and guided-missile destroyer to South China Sea.
They must be really tough to land and take off a carrier!
“Nandini Krishnamoorthy” at the IBT apparently isn’t aware of the difference.
Funny, but as you know the US Military continues it’s evolution to a truly unified, combined arms force.
The Navy helps out with missile defense and air-space control, while the Air Force helps out with sea control.
Formidable. Even dominant.
+1.
Being a Skittle on a Carrier is dangerous enough with our Navy Jets, with our hightly trained Navy pilots used to landing and taking off a carrier.
One can only imagine being a Skittle with B-1B’s landing a and taking off with Air Force Pilots.
It would be nice if journalists, with their self-acknowledged superior intelligence, understood what they have written about.
Lil Kim Dum Dung needs a chance see what big flock of A-10 Warthogs can do to his grounded planes.

I’m in my late 70’s, and I can’t remember many ever writing about what they really know and understand.

You’d be surprised how resourceful the Navy can be.
In Vietnam our tiny Naval Base had a WW2 Sherman Tank to use for perimeter defense.
Ping, just because...
Can also be launched from the F/A-18E and F-35 aircraft.
This is why a GREAT President will keep on giving to America years after office. The B-1 was part of Ronald Reagan’s legacy after dumb ass Carter tried to destroy it. President Trump needs to build up our military towards the future.
I’m betting on a 9mm to the cranium or polonium flavored kimchi.
They were designed to be supersonic, but at the last minute the speed was downgraded by a budget cut. They can probably go supersonic in a dive, but can’t cruise at that speed.
