Congressional Democrats claim their Republican colleagues are blocking them out of talks about how to proceed with the House-passed healthcare reform bill through reconciliation, a legislative process that allows passage of a budget bill and prevents it being filibustered in the Senate.
"To accomplish this 'Robin Hood in reverse' approach without bipartisan support, Republicans are using an arcane process known as reconciliation. That's not a term that's likely to come up at coffee shops around the country, but it's important," Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., said in the party's weekly address. "Reconciliation amounts to 'my-way-or-the-highway,' not both parties working together to solve the nation's problem as Americans expect them to."

I’m at the point of saying to just repeal it. That would meet reconciliation, and the old system was far better than this one
Democrats excluded Republicans from discussions formulating Obamacare and passed it through reconciliation. Now the Democrats complain when the Republicans respond in kind.
We gotta open up the State lines for competition in ANY case.

And here I was thinking Democrats rarely work with Republican. Silly me.
If the rats think its so great trade in your gold cadillac health plan for your family and join!
Yeah who need that dumb old 10th Amendment anyway?
Hussein changed tax law all by himself. I wonder if President Trump can reverse all of that - by himself.

It’s all lip service. The last thing the Democrats want is to be involved in passing Trumpcare. They’re counting on it being a big campaign issue for 2018 and 2020.
Exactly, the Republicans should refresh the memory of Americans on how Harry Reid Senate majority leader stripped a house bill of its wording, replaced it with Obamacare and passed it through reconciliation.
Arcane -- as in 7-1/2 years ago.
"Reconciliation amounts to 'my-way-or-the-highway'"
You started it...
"Yeah who need that dumb old 10th Amendment anyway?"
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Congress holds the reigns on interstate commerce?
True, but the courts have held that insurance policies are not commerce. They are contracts. The Constitution does not give the federal government power over those.
Like their way of passing it in the first place wasn’t corrupt as hell?
You are right on with this statement.
I can only laugh when I read about the dems whining about reconciliation.
“Elections matter” (a famous quote). And it is too bad that things are reduced to the post-modern “it’s all about the power” politics. If the dems want dialogue, then I suggest that they start things with dialogue next time.
The Democrats dream has become Americas nightmare.
I can clearly remember the Republicans were completely left out of the process in the passing of Obamacare. No Republican had seen the bill when the vote was taken, and no Republican voted for Obamacare.
