He appears not to be as much of a problem as the Democrats hoped.
What if Republican voters who dont particularly like President Donald Trump are also able to compartmentalize their votes? What if they dislike Democrats more than they do the president? What if, rather than being punished for Trumps unpopularity, local candidates are rewarded for their moderation? This would be a disaster for Democrats. And Tuesdays runoff election in Georgias Sixth District shows that it might be possible.
Now, had Jon Ossoff come out ahead of Karen Handel, the coverage would have painted this as a game-changing moment: a referendum on conservatism itself, a harbinger of a coming liberal wave, and a rejection of Trumps disastrous presidency. It would have illustrated that Democrats had figured out how to flip those suburban and affluent Republicans who arent crazy about the president.
Perhaps some of that will still play out during the midterms, because one race (or even four) doesnt tell us everything we need to know. Every district is unique. Still, there are definitely ominous signs for Democrats.

Don’t worry, it’s still sunk.
When National Review doesn’t suck, they blow.
National Review is just another globalist rag that hates Americans.
I call it International Screw.
Donald Trump has single-handedly rescued the Republican party from oblivion. If the rest of the party would get behind him instead of fighting him they could be in power for years to come. But the stupid apparently runs too strong in some of them.
Even if the RINOs and GOPe support Pres Trump fully, we will still primary them and feel free to remove and replace them with real Americans who would not find it strange to honor their oath of office.
The Donald is not my cup of tea-- I find his style and temperament to be grating. But it is obvious that he is smart, tough, and knows how to win. And on a policy level, I like what he is doing. He has done better on policy so far than I would have expected when I realized (Nov. 2015) that he was going to win the GOP nomination and probably the Presidency.
My realization had a simple basis really. Presidential politics is blood sport--and the GOP nomination process is gladiatorial combat in an arena festooned with command-detonated IED's under Lamestream Media control. Ergo, the toughest, most vicious predator in the jungle was what was needed to defeat Hildebeast and her legions of flying monkeys, clueless rich liberal women, and stupid Snowflakes.
And I have another observation that I will share for the benefit of the seditious Deep State types out there-- I have noticed that people who f**k with The Donald usually end up regretting it.
George Bush almost sank the GOP. Trump helped to get it up and floating again. just my opinion of course.
National review was once worth reading. When Buckley ran it. Not recently tho
As Trump starts to win—and win big—Jobs, Health care costs drop—and we have more peace in the world—cheap gas—more factories—mine opening up, Ship launched, Americans launched into space on American built ships. Then 2020 will be a referendum on Trump and he will get re-elected.
Honey Badger don't give a shit about anything National Review says anymore.
Who mentioned Lyin’ Ted? You Cruz or Losers’ butts still hurting?
Btw, Trump accomplishes more for to make this a better country every day than Cruz has in his whole life.
In twenty years everyone will ‘remember’ they backed Trump...
Good for you Lysan.
I got on the Trump train as soon as he started talking.
My family and I did one small project in real estate. This convinced me that Trump would not be a push over in that he has done hundreds of RE projects, most much bigger than mine. That he survived and made money is total proof that he knows what he is doing. His communication techniques are clearly confusing to the National Review, but not to most of us.
Just exactly WHAT has Trump REALLY accomplished ?
Everything he’s done so far, can be UNDONE by the next President.
What does he call what the Bush family did?
