President Trump should move Ramstein Air Base from Germany to Poland. That would poke Merkel in the eye pretty good!!

Poland's government would like visiting President Donald Trump to make assurances this week that the presence of U.S. and NATO troops in Poland will continue as long as the region's security is threatened by Russia, the foreign minister said Monday.

Keep that defense spending above 2% of GDP and you don't have to worry.

I could be off a bit, but Ramstein has about 8-9,000 military personnel and another 16,000or so family members, plus close to 2,000 civilian workers. That’s some serious economic bang for a country like Poland. They would give President Trump his own street and statue:)

“Poland wants Trump’s vow of protection from Russian activity”

Are you not a sovereign nation, Poland?

Start acting like one, or did 1939 not teach you to stop outsourcing your national security to other people?

Trump is to deliver a speech in Warsaw during a brief visit Thursday.

Cool. Now that’s one European country we should stand with.

I can understand Polish sensitivity toward Russia - but I don’t think Russia has any designs on them.

Has Russia taken parts of Georgia and the Ukraine? Yes. After the election of very liberal governments (and the para-legal overthrow of a pro Russian president) sections of both countries, that were majority Russian (an unfortunate reality), wanted to realign. I dare say we would do the same thing if parts of northern Mexico were little Americas and decided they wanted to throw off the cartel otherwise known as the Mexican government and join as states.

So far Russian expansion in the region is at least somewhat justifiable. Attacking Poland would start WWIII and Putin isn’t going there. I don’t think, based on watching many many of his speeches, he would have any interest in going there even if there were no consequences from NATO.

So IMO we need to be realigning with Poland and Russia - and bring them into a coalition with other regional nations (those not intent on committing cultural suicide).

” ‘I am more interested in the 5,000 U.S. troops than in the monthly confirmation, by the means of rhetoric, of Article 5,’ Waszczykowski said,”

Poland is on the firing line when it comes to Russia. They are the canary in the coal mine. They know continental Western Europe is useless when it comes to military defense and NATO without the US is utterly useless when it comes to their defense. So I can’t say as I blame Poland for asking. But the only troops in Poland should be EU troops. We will serve a support function behind lines and the EU can be the front line fodder. After all, it is their yard not ours.

Oh hush up! Poland of all the European countries never stopped fighting for its freedom. It was the Poles who smuggled the Enigma machine to the French who in turn smuggled it to England where the boys at Bletchly Park broke the code that helped to win the war. Poles went ashore D Day at Normandy., Poles fought the Communist regime and it was a polish Pope who joined with Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher to bring down the Soviet Union. The Poles are the good guys and they even make great sausage!.

I dont care. My point still stands. Doesn’t matter how many people on the right are fanboys of Poland. They need to walk the walk and not think the American military is here to guarantee anything for anyone.

Poland fought bravely in 1939, but was invaded by both Germany and the USSR. Don’t know what more they could have done.

Britain and France selectively declared war only against Germany for the invasion...

Poland is spending the agreed NATO 2%, but if left alone they’re not strong enough to stand against Russia, especially considering that Russia has nukes.

Have a look of this interview from 2008.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-6_t8j5idU

In this interview Putin is saying the fear that he might invade Ukraine is nonsense. Sarah Palin predicted the same year that if Obama is elected then Putin may invade Ukraine and she was called stupid by the media pundits.
