40 Things No Man Over 40 Should Own

There’s an old proverb (or maybe it’s just the title of a Broadway play) that reminds us of the universal truth: “You can’t take it with you.” Though they’re talking about life after death, I believe it applies to your 40s, as well. If you’re a man on the cusp of middle age, there’s a long list of things you should be leaving in the past. I’m talking about everything from scooters that would be mistaken for a child’s to wildly age-inappropriate clothing to the single worst haircut any man can have—especially someone at your dignified station in life.

Now, without further ado, here are the 40 things you should probably say goodbye to immediately. And once you’ve cut these things out of your life, be sure to learn the 40 words and phrases no man over 40 should ever say.

LOL. That’s him. He says he’s having so much fun saying some of the most outrageous things. And sometimes he does it just to mess with people.

Waaaaaaay back in 1980, when I was in a Jr. High band, my buddy had a 72 (ish) Tele, with the twin humbuckers and the large headstock. I coveted that guitar, as I was playing a cheapy Aria Pro 2 Les Paul knockoff (but I worked my butt off over the summer to save the money to buy it, so it was a prized possession).

I'd like to lay hands on a Tele at some point, but I'd probably have to get rid of my MIM Strat and/or my Ibanez RG to make room for it. The MIM Strat wouldn't be so hard to let go of, but the Ibanez has a great neck for shredding, and I don't really want to part ways with it.

I love how versatile the AC-30 is...crystal clear all the way to roaring crunch ala Foo Fighters. Years back, when I was living in Nashville, I saw a guy jamming one week with his blues band, playing Hendrix through an AC-30. Next week he was with his grunge/metal band, playing Soundgarden and STP through the same 30. I want one!

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!

It’s a Fender Mustang “Modeling Amp” which means i can set it on “Bassman” and play my bass through it as well as the les on several different settings.
It was cheap, but very powerful and versatile for what i use it for. It can’t stand up to a drum set though.
