The Senate blocked President Trump from being able to make recess appointments on Thursday as lawmakers leave Washington for their summer break.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), doing wrap up for the entire Senate, locked in nine "pro-forma" sessions — brief meetings that normally last roughly a minute.

Um, separation of powers means they can’t do this. They may have tried but it is meaningless except for pandering to their leftidiot base.

More of the same:

[from 2011]

...Following the House, the Senate will hold a series of “pro forma” sessions over the next month, effectively blocking President Barack Obama from making any appointments during Congress’ August recess...

Did you all hear Trent Franks from AZ when he was on Hannity’s radio show yesterday?

He gave a very well put speech of what is going on with the too timid, too polite, too mannerly, too decent acting republicans, against the dems who are not any of those kind of persons.. they just fight.. dig in.. and do whatever it takes to get what they want. He said Sessions recused himself because he’s a decent man and tried to do what was the right thing to do.. the honorable thing to do.. but he pointed out the republicans are so busy trying to be nice, that they are losing this war for our country. He understands the problem.. he says the republicans are too timid... too weak.. he understands there are crimes that need to be investigated.. by the left... hillary and all we want investigated.
Franks is also on the house judiciary committee.

If democrats controlled both houses with a democrat president, this proposal would receive ZERO democrat votes.

If Trump was threatening to appoint someone wholly unqualified I could see his own party doing this.

But in this case, there’s no evidence of any such intent.

These so called Republicans are scum.

If the Republican senators had any balls they would have a surprise "flash mob" on the Senate floor. I wonder how many bills they could get passed and appointees confirmed before the Democrats could get into town to try to stop it.

Yes, they can. Republicans did it to Obama several times.

Actually, separation of powers says that they can. Recess appointments cannot be made if the Senate remains in session, and they just guaranteed they will remain in session through this parliamentary trick.

Obama tried declaring as the executive when the Senate was and was not in session and it had to go all the way to the Supreme Court to declare his illegal recess appointments were in valid and the President does not have the power to unilaterally declare when a coequal branch of government is or is not in session. That was one of scariest and most scandalous power grabs in history...now you essentially make the same argument? Are you serious?

AS I have said, the eGOP is dead to me. I would rather have Democrats people hold accountable than the Republicans that get away with this sh*t!

Time to remove their exemption to Obamacare...oh, and stay in Washington ridiculing them for being “in session” but never doing any work. Do it all August long, every day. Ask if they’re really the French, who take the whole month off...

With so many nominees held up this is a knife in the back. Obongo has very few not confirmed when it was done to him. And to have that treasonous bitch Murkowski announce it is beyond belief.

I think this was a deal. Lisa M. releases her hostages in return for this cap. We’re winning. But we’re fighting for everything.

much adoo about nothing - I don’t believe the President has, or had any such plan.

I don’t know about others but I trust the President a heck of lot more than those in Congress.
